Hi, i have just bought a xfx 4890 from ebay "new and in exlent condition". i opened the box and it looked great. every thing looked new. just fired it in and i got (from the crossfire connector side) on,off,on,on. all the lit leds are red and flash on on power up then flash on power down. i do not get any display from the card, not even bios posts. the fan spins up like it should. i contacted xfx twice, the first guy said that it sounds lik a power issue and the second guy said i should send it back 2 the retailer.
i hav a corsair tx750 that i bought new from ebuyer a few months ago.
i dont no what to do as i dont have another system to test it in.
any ideas?
please

your PSU is more than enough, if you make sure the power connectors are properly in the back of the card - hit up ebay and demand a return and refund.

Thanks for the quick replay Mussels, but i dont no if i will succeed, the seller has no returns and only got 17 feed back and might decide 2 jack the account for £140.
do xfx do repairs? grr i should just buy new.

if you bought through paypal, dispute it immediately.

yup i did thank for the help. this is what xfx said,

Hi, thanks for your message and sorry to hear you are experiencing these problems, it does appear either to be faulty card or lack of power, Please ensure all required power leads to the mainboard and graphics card are securely connected. If this does not help, please try alternative PSU and/or mainboard, if possible, if it does turn out to be the card, please contact your supplier, but anything else we can help with, please let us know and an you update your product registration details with the correct serial number (e.g. J1N09152). many Thanks. Tony

i will try and send it back, unless there is some1 in the kyle area that has a system to test the card.

It looks like your tried it in Xfire; did you try the card by itself?

EDIT:

D601: VDDC_FAULT

D1601: critical temperature fault

D1602: AUX Hot Plug/Unplug Fault (upper connector)

D1603: AUX Hot Plug/Unplug Fault (lower connector)

At BOOT/POST, the card's fan will spin @ 100% for a short while and LEDs will light up for a brief period and then go out. This is NORMAL behaviour as the card is performing it's own type of POST test

i was just making a video of what the card does/doesn't do when i hit the power when all of a sudden the card decided to work! thanks for the replays tho, only time will tell how reliable this card is tho...:|

yay for random fixes!

Cool...That card just wanted to be in the movies.

grr
just took out my working card to fit a ek water block, but the screws supplyed and the holes didnt match, screws m3 water block had m4. anyway im gona send it back so put my stalk cooler back on, fired it in and ****! the 3 red leds flash lik normal, fan spins up but then the fan stops for a second, the led "D1601" lights up and the fan goes to 100%
wtf! i presume that led means that the fan is bust but the fan works?!
any suggestions?

Again, return the card and avoid further headaches. It should of worked right away.

yeah from what your saying happened to me... it means the core is overheating...
I took the gpu apart to change the thermal paste and some how during the re-assembly a tiny transistor got wedged in between the heat sink and core... in turn the HS didn't make contact with the core and that's what happened to me...
I powered up, the two red lights lite up and the fan did its normal spin up... lights went off..
one light lit up and the fan spun to %100...

hey thanks for the comment, so did u just re seat the hfs? what did u do? does this mean the card is f**ked?

i just took the card apart and removed the obstruction and put it back together.... it works fine now... the gpu is protecting its self from what you have described... mine did the exact same thing :rockout:

awe thanks fullinfusion, i was having bad thoughts! this card has be STRESSFULL! need 2 get another in crossfire, that will be fun, twice the stupid bugs!
anyway fullinfusion ur my new best friend

From what u have said it looks more to be a bios problem than anything else. Clear cmos and try again, it should work

just a bit off topic but i was having problems getting my 3870x2 to play nice with the single 3870... I couldn't get anything on the screen to show up... what i found was i needed to move the DVI cable down to the single gpu... the single is the master and the x2 is the slave... for making room on the bottom of the case i left the x2 in the top slot and the single in the bottom blue slot... blah blah, but any way i found out by still using both x16 pci-e slots the single gpu is running x16 and the 3870x2 is running x8 even though its in the x16 slot.... it sure had me banging my head against the wall for some time but trial and error solved the problem

yeah i unscrewed the hfs and re tightened it. last time i noticed that it was really hard 2 get the gpu screws into the hfs thread, this time, i made sure it was in the right place and they went in easy.
all working now ;)
thanks fullinfusion
and mav2000, thanks but fullinfusion got it.

1.4 on the phantom? is that not a bit high?
i should beet ur 20k in 3D mark 06 when i get my other 4890 :)
i have 2 x16 pci-e :D

glad it worked for ya mate :toast:
when i read your problem i knew straight away what was going on... i almost cried when after i re-assembled my $600 gpu and it didnt work.... you were a blast from the past Tech...
and your welcome :respect:

what you mean.... QUOTE 1.4 on the phantom? is that not a bit high? :wtf:

i dont no bout phantoms but i here that over 1.35v on intel q9400 accelerates degradation. altho im tempted to up my vcore to get 3.8 stable.
btw if 1.35+ does cause degradation if it only 1.35+ in windows? iv got 1.34 on bios but that drops quite a bit in windows so can i safely up the bios volts as long as there below 1.35 in windows?

you mean Phenom.... im using a 940 clocked out @ 3.74GHz (1.45v) 24/7 running a tri-fired graphics... there is no degradation till you hit 1.55v on this cpu i believe... also H20'd shes cool as can be :D
oh and up the v core... just be sure your keeping things cool enough. :pimp:
