My system has 5300 in it. If I jumped up to 8500 would it give me a significant improvement of does it even warrant the $160 investment. This would be for gaming purposes.

Thank you

Get a 4Gb PC 6400 kit and OC it to 1000 (PC8000) speeds, you don't see much difference after that, if any.

Your motherboard/cpu combo only allows for pc6400 max. If you got the pc8500, it would still run at pc6400 (800mhz) speeds unless you're willing to do some serious overclocking. If you are, get the 8500, if not, stick with pc6400- much cheaper too.

Thanks, will it improve my gaming at all ?

sure. Loading will be a bit faster and what not. Boot time should be a bit faster. But nothing world changing. But worth an upgrade. DDR2 800 is pretty cheap these days and OC's pretty good.

have you tried oc'ing the 5300 i have my set with samsung chips @ 9xx mhz 5-5-5-15 2T 2.3v just fine
