6950 crossfire not working

hi guys, i have been reading this website for 9 years but this is the first time i have registered.

just got my 6950's but according to msi afterburner, i am getting lower fps with crossfire on than with single card. i have tried reinstalling drivers 6 times.

this happens on shogun 2, black ops, alien swarm, basiacally all the games i have.

the logo for crossfire is coming on in game and gpuz is telling me that crossfire is working aswel, anyone have any idea whats going on?

oh and gpu usage in shogun 2 does not go above 46% for both cards

Did you install the application profiles for crossfire?

Did you make sure you have Catalyst AI - ENABLED?

If you've tried this then what I suggest is test each individual card to make sure both are working. If they are then we can troubleshoot from there. Also just to add, make sure your CPU is not bottlenecking performance, bottlenecked crossfire configs can run slower than a single card.

hi, yes i have installed the profiles and i can confirm that both cards are working fine individually.

could it be a cpu bottleneck? i highly doubt it but thats the only thing i can think of right now

edit- i cant even see the option in catalyst AI anymore, although even when i could it was on enabled

but would a quad at 3.6 not let my 6950's go above 46% usage?? might be but i need to know for sure. by the way this is first time i have gone crossfire (although all previous 9 cards have been ATI/AMD

i can confirm i am getting nearly full gpu usage on 1 card and double the fps with crossfire off.

anyone else got any input plz?

How much amps does your PSU have? Never heard of the brand BeQuiet before.

dont know how much amps but its 750 watts. bequiet is a very high end brand, top 3 most expensive brands in uk, comes highly recommended

could you test with another power supply to rule out the power supply failing.

tried a cheap 1000 watt psu, no difference

I have the same problem, ppl say if the game is running in windows mode, the CF will not work 'cause the driver does not support windows mode.
I tested Crysis, Crysis 2, all in single card. CF SUCKS?

Neither Crossfire or SLI will work in window mode, you'll need to play in fullscreen if you want want both GPUs to be utilized.

You need to overclock your CPU/NB for CrossFire on AMD systems. It registers as the Northbridge in CPU-Z. 2600mhz is a good place to start.

I have to play Crysis in windows mode, if fullscreen, there will be mapping errors in sea surface area and sky, flashing, deforming.

update on situation.

upgraded to a core i5 2500K, my gpu usage is now at 100% for both cards and cpu at around 75% (stock clocks), cheers for the help guys :toast:
