I'm trying to get a graphics card for my friend, and his price limit is around $100-120. I've chosen two, the nVidia GeForce 7600GS(multiple brands) or the HIS X1600Pro IceQ. Which would be better in games? All he plays is Counter-Strike: Source and Day of Defeat:Source at 1280x1024 with no eye-candy on. Which is the better decision.

According to this, X1600pro. However, they are very close, and I suppose he should choose red camp or green camp. Either that or simplify it to Realism (red camp.) vs. Beauty (green camp.).

ok 3dmark 06 x1600 pro 1710 7800gs 3308 I have both here on very strong boxs but I have had the 1600 in both and trust me in my 805D box it was still under 1900 but there are many other test like pc wizard in which the 1600 would not take a x800 and the 7800 smokes it but the x1600 never beat my old 9800pro in any test

edit: opps 7600 gs never mind but I bet it still kicks its ass

7600GS is a 7600GT with DDR2 ram, it will overclock much better.

This is my results with one. I can go a little higher on the core but it gets freezes, any higher on the ram causes bad artifacts.

It stays really cool on the other hand.. 42c load @ 500mhz, the overclock is only limited by the voltage(only 1.1v stock), with voltmods(1.3v) I seen 700mhz on air.

It only scores about 4500 in 3dmark 05 with this OC, with a 7600GT I'll get like 6500.

It is a good budget card though :)

XFX makes a model with 900mhz GDDR2 as opposed to the standard 800mhz DDR2, that should be a pretty big performance boost seeing as how the memory is a major bottleneck.

EDIT: Also, Galaxy makes a 7600GS with GDDR3 memory, and is basically the same thing as a 7600GT, if you can find it in the U.S. that is....

This is what I just got: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143064

Went down to 158 after I bought it for 162.. wtf.. lol.
