[speculation mode=enabled]512MB GTX cards are nowhere to get. So many people purchase the ATI counterparts and NVIDIA loses ground? Maybe NVIDIA simply wants to draw the attention away from their performance king and cuts the price of the slower 256MB cards in order to make them more attractive compared to the ATI cards?[speculation mode=disabled]
Fact is NVIDIA partners now have to pay less to get 256MB GTX cards. According to The Inquirer the price was around $300 and is now near $230. That's a hefty cut for sure. But I guess the consumer prices won't be affected for a while.
