any ideas on this?

i have a brand new xfx 9500gt and i cannot turn the fan down. tried new drivers, new evga precision, msi afterburner and rivatuner. no luck

Maybe they ran out of sensors in the factory, and just shipped the card out......Cause you know 99% of people will not notice.

Just an idea

IIRC [some] XFX 9500GTs simply have no fan control. Take a look ... does the fan have two wires?

yes... only 2. fook!

and i just got this thing!! time for ANOTHER new card.

You might as well try Ati Tray Tools. That's what I use to control my fan(and it also has only 2 wires) :toast:

Yup, my XFX 9600GSO did not have fan control either- just ran 100% all the time (LOUD). Tried every software program I could think of, but that 2wire fan was just not going to have it.

XFX is known for this, and it annoys me to no end. Randomly they will have cards that just don't have fan control. They've even done it on some higher end cards like 8800GT/9800GTs and as mentioned before 8800GS/9600GSOs.

You seem to be really unlucky in the fact that out of all the different models of 9500GT XFX puts out, you got the one that doesn't have fan control, because all the rest seem to have 4-pin fans(at least all the other ones on newegg).

hah... unfortunately i have a stack of 30 of these at work i need to sell. i grabbed one to replace my 8400gs thats getting old.

back to the drawing board i guess.

There is one simple solution if you have 9500 GT with 3 wire fan (I tried everything that I founded on forums, but nothing was worked for my card).
Just disconnect fan from the graphics card, extend cable from fan, attach it to the motherboard chassis or power fan connector and set in motherboard BIOS what speed and temperature response you want.
