Hey there!
Im posting this on every tech forum or subreddit I can until I understand or fix whats going on... I appreciate any help you guys can give me!
I recently bought an MSI GP65 LEAPORD with these specs:
I7 10750H @ 2.6 Ghz
RTX 2070 mobile // 16 GB DDR4 RAM.
I'm a dental student and I use this laptop to play games and study, so I'd like to have this thing alive for more than two years which brings me to the issue.
THE PROBLEM
On turbo mode, you could cook a steak with this thing. It constantly reaches 95 degrees when playing games like PUBG. Ive tried using Throttlestop by reducing the 6 values under TURBO RATIO LIMIT ( because I cant change the actual value of the turbo ratio limit) and Ive tried undervolting ( around –100 mv) on gpu intel, cpu core and cpu cache.

This does solve the temperature issue for sure, but it reduces the fps by ALOT. Id get around 100-120 fps on normal settings while id get 75-95 with undervolt. Ive tried slightly raising different values trying to look for a middle ground but I cant find it. It seems that changing the values of the cores ( the 6 values under the TURBO RATIO LIMIT) is what is affecting the fps and temperature the most. Ive been looking and fiddling with things that I don’t understand and I don’t wanna screw my laptop anymore than I have to.

So, any suggestions?

that's pretty much normal for modern laptops (as long as it's not the highest end laptop on the market)

Well its not the highest no, but Im pretty sure it wont last me if it stay at those temps 4 hours a day
You're fine.. something else will break before the CPU ever will. CPUs are made to not start throttling until 105C, so anything below that is fine, not ideal, but fine. You're maybe shortening the lifespan from 20 years to 15 by running it at 90+. And it's only for four hours a day, which isn't much anyway. And you've got a three-year warranty anyway, I'd assume, so if it does break within that period, you get a repair/replacement.

that the going rate of temp on gaming laptops today, as for fps im sure you could tune throttlestop a bit more to get a better out come but to tell you how you need to talk to someone with a bit more knol than me im sure someone will be along shortly. goodluck.

why do you think so?

the temperature is not a big problem.

my friend had a GTX 480 and a 2500k running at over 90°C all the time for almost a decade now.
meanwhile modern chips are actually build to operate at these temperatures.

and how many of them acutally own a laptop running at temps and having a degraded or damaged chip?

you have a warranty. and they don't make a product that breaks so easy that they have to replace it within short time on their own cost.

Intel says the maximum temp for the processor is 100°C, so anything below that is fine.

The processors also have boost states, and they will lower their clock speeds and power consumption automatically to stop themselves from going over that limit. This is the entire point of Turbo boost in laptop processors. It allows them to run as fast as possible while not overheating.

while you waiting you could look on youtube for a guide to your lappy and throttlestop, thats how i sorted my MSI GP72MVR Leopard Pro " mine is a gen older than yours" and max temps are 82c with higher boosts and no frame loss so it can work.

eluk max 17 rtx 2070 here. 95c was normal with stock TM, Ive sinced applied cunductonaut to CPU and GPU and temps are 85C. No difference in performance(fps/frequency). These mobile RTX are literally stripped of any overclocking(frequency) capabilities with respect to cooler temps, due to a 0.85v limitation. Increasing power draw to 115 from 80watts is the only form of performance gain. Still a big bump from the x5675@4.6Ghz and GTX 280 i used to run with and now my system can run all modern AAA titles.

Well if you have any experience changing thermal paste on the CPU and GPU then you should do it, Laptop that come with horrible thermal paste application is not rare.

I have the Acer Triton 500 with 10875H + 2070 Super Max-Q and with stock thermal paste I have to lower the Turbo Ratio Limit by 500mhz (from 5.1ghz single core to 4.6ghz) combine with undervolt (170mV core - 85mV Cache) and reduce Long term power limit to 40W so that my CPU can stay below 95C in PUBG.

After changing stock thermal paste with Thermalright TF-X, my 10875H has more thermal headroom to stay at stock Turbo Ratio Limit, stock Power Limit and still below 90C.

Your laptop is pretty easy to open up, just unscrew some screws and pop out the bottom and you can access the internal.

If you have never repasted CPU or GPU then perhaps ask someone to do it for you. Your laptop is pretty expensive afterall.
