I have been using green video cards for some time now (my last red card was an X1950pro) but I have been curious to play around with an ATI offering. I picked up a Sapphire 4870 512MB for $100CDN to replace an aging 8800GT in my server (Vista 32 bit). I will assume I need to do a fairly complete nvidia driver de-installation before installing the ATI drivers. 1) Any automated tools to do a complete sweep of the the vestiges of nvidia drivers from teh machine or do I need to open the registry and do it manually? 2) The Sapphire site has catalyst 9.4 drivers but the ATI site has generic 9.5 drivers. Are there any features to using the Sapphire branded drivers or should I go generic? 3) I hear that fan control changes are popular on the 4870's. I assume this is to combat the high idle temps (70's) that I see in the reviews? 4) Last time I had an ATI card I was using ATITool to OC and control fan speeds. Is that still the tool of choice for you ATI guys or is there something better? Thanks guys. I know I have some research to do on my own but any quick answers from the red camp would be appreciated.
