As far as I know, a port multiplier would have to be a controller itself because it has to have one terminal (SATA instead of PCI or PCI Express) and multiple initial points. The SATA protocol doesn't allow more than one drive (HDD, SDD, or optical) per channel.

Install a heatsink on the CPU.
Ensure the CPU fan is working.
Use the CPU less

Install a fan was the correct answer! Trust me, I've tried it, just pointing a fan at a naked CPU doesn't work! You need a heatsink!

I got that one wrong too.

I said Install a heasink on the CPU because the CPU fan could be working but if it isn't attached to a heatsink which is pressed firmly against the CPU cap with a TIM in between, it ain't gonna do much good. We also can't forget passively cooled CPUs still require a heatsink and not necessarily a fan...
