i just set up my 120 Gig Sata with 2 partitions for windows. both XP Pro. i am going to use one for gaming only (no background services running) and have only installed Vid and Snd drivers and mobo of course. and the other for internet and music and such. my question is on the boot screen where i choose which OS to boot from they both say "Windows XP Pro" i know that the top one is the regular one and the second one is the "Gaming" one because i installed the "Gaming" one first. but is there a way to rename one or both of them? i looked in msconfig cause i know that ya can change the time it will sit on that screen and stuff but i couldnt find anything to let me change the name. thanks in advance! :rockout:

Need to mod the Bios to screen the names/lables you want.

how do i do that?

thats easy...

boot windows, and open the boot.ini (by opening system properties > advanced > Startup and Recovery > settings > edit) and rename the portion...

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

You Can Do What You Are Out To Do From A Single Os Install!

how do i do that?

You can do this, from a SINGLE system installation you know!

HARDWARE PROFILES!

Control Panel -> System Icon -> Hardware Tab -> 3rd groupbox down is HARDWARE PROFILES @ the bottom of this screen!

Later, in services.msc, you can set which profile loads what service... & drivers too even.

:)

* Some "FYI" & if you need help? Ask me... but, that is PRETTY MUCH IT, outlined above, & very easy to do, between the 2 tools I note.

APK

P.S.=> You see this quite a bit in laptops that network techs setup for logging onto the internet from home for instance, using said laptop & also so it can hookup to a corporate LAN/WAN...

E.G.-> ALL from a single OS install, & during bootup, much like the boot.ini screen?

You are presented w/ a menu asking you to logon from say "HOME" (if you called 1 hardware profile that) or "WORK" (assuming you'd call it that instead of home)... apk
