I've recently been given a fairy ok looking Acer Aspire... AMD Athlon x2 - 512x2 DDR2 RAM - 250GB HDD etc....

Nice enough machine but it wont boot... I put my Windows XP CD in it and it posts and goes to the "Verifying DMI Pool Data........." screen, then it comes up with the "Boot from CD :" and spins the CD up but never does anything.

Same thing happens if you just leave it to Boot like you normally would it just will not get past the "Verifying DMI Pool Data........." screen :( It might help if I say that it doesn't show the config table while on the "Verifying DMI Pool Data........." screen like it does on the computer I'm using right now.

Cheers all.

Try clearing the BIOS ? Check BIOS settings as well . Sounds like some thing there is not working right .

Sounds like the hard drives OS files are corrupted. Can you get into the bios? If you can than why wouldn't the "Boot from CD...." go through if your keys on the laptop works, unless you're having problems looking for the "ANYKEY". :p Okay, so you do press the "ANYKEY" button and it just keeps on looping through the CD-ROM? Either that Acer Aspire has had enough with you or there is something wrong with it.

I would start by removing the battery clearing the BIOS and checking the HDD make sure it is plugged in and hooked up correctly . If that don't work then take it in and see if a shop can fix it . sounds like the HDD and BIOS are messed up .

Its an Aspire desktop...

Only just got in from earlier so will test the above suggestions and see what comes of it, was thinking maybe just for format the disk in my PC as the HDD in the Aspire is sATA also... (If its ok...)

Dahhh nothings worked, made sure everthings plugged in correctly, reseated the RAM (used different single module set ups), cleared the CMOS and there is no cards to remove for testing.....

Unplugged the HDD's sATA cable from the mobo and now on the DMI Pool Data screen the first boot device is the CD drive (was the HDD) and the disc drive span up and because theres no HDD it went through to "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" does this mean the BIOS and everything could be fine its just the HDD?

If so would it still be worth a try formatting the hard drive in my computer? Or would it just BSoD on me when I put the formatted drive back in the computer it came out of? Had that trouble doing the same thing with two laptops before... think one of them must have been screwed.
