Hi,i've got a laptop Acer Aspire 5740DG 436G64MN 3D.
And i have a question.
The graphics card is Ati Radeon HD 5650.
For the other specifications google the laptop.
I want now to upgrade the graphics card and put 2GB.
What can i do?
Which graphics card 2GB does in my laptop work??
What must i change to put 2GB?

Please help me!:ohwell:

Why do you want to upgrade the graphics card? Why do you want to "put 2GB"?

That and you can change your gpu to use an additional 3gb of system memory. Check your bios settings

Answer my two questions first:
1. Why do you want to upgrade the graphics card?
2. Why do you want to "put 2GB"?

And as xfire says, the graphics card of your laptop can use system memory available up to 3GB, which is being called "Hyper Memory."

You cant do it. Ok let me clarify. Your 5650 is most likely NOT a dedicated GPU and is soldered to the main board. It also most likely uses shared memory. Even if its a dedicated GPU and has its own memory. The cost of buying a new GPU with 2 Gb and swaping them out would not be cost effective. In my opinion a HTPC with 2 Gb is a waste.

And what Entropy ask "What are you trying to accomplish"

I know about the 3GB Memory, but it is hyper memory, you cant have 3gb in your computer, when you go for example in one game the graphics specifications you cannot have 3gbs,one the physical 1GB!
I use big games, thats why i want a better card!

And besides, considering the low maximum resolution of your laptop, even if you "put 2GB" for dedicated RAM for the graphics card, you won't see any difference at all.

Since you keep on ignoring my question. Go ahead and try upgrading your HD 5650M. Maybe to an HD 5870M. You'd most probably spend the same amount of money as buying a new laptop.

your problem is not your memory. you would need to change the GPU. Its about a two hour job and very costly.

BS! My Acer Aspire 7520 has a dedicated card and it by no means high end. 8400M G 256MB. It's MXM and has been replaced once(was one of the bad solder batch) I considered upgrading the card at one point but like entropy said the price on laptop cards makes it not worth it.
I can pull it out and take pics of it if you doubt it ;)
I dunno his model but don't think that it has to be a "high end" to have a dedicated card :shadedshu

I found a .pdf listing the specs of your machine... you have 6GB of system ram as it is. Plus 1GB of dedicated ram to the GPU. Honestly that gpu really couldn't make use of more ram very well, however i see no harm in giving it another 1gb of system ram... (if you can control that anyway, check your bios settings, the part where it says "Press 'name of key here' to enter setup") that would be more than enough and you would still have 5GB of system ram left over which would be plenty for games. Even enough for skyrim, system ram wise. dunno how well that gpu would perform in a game like that.

honestly... even if you could upgrade that gpu, it would be costly as other had said, but also your cpu would probably be a bottleneck. of course you could upgrade the cpu but then there's the laptop's cooling limits to consider.

the .pdf i found http://support.you.gr/catalog/71/71C940D8CBC33147B93B8915C3CE1618.pdf
your current GPU's capabilites http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-5650.23697.0.html

based on that review above... my best advice i can give you is check to see what clock speed your gpu is running at, and possibly set it to 650mhz if it isn't already. also, if it was set lower, i'd force the fan speed to max since the cooling solution may not be all that good. Also, I'd look into a cpu upgrade. the current one is 35w, so i'd stick to 35w tdp when upgrading the cpu.

Here's a list of CPUs supported by your chipset, though keep it to around 35w TDP. click the "compatible products" link then click "Expand all" link to see the wattage ratings of the cpus. http://ark.intel.com/products/chipsets/43181

other cpus may work but you'll have to look around acer related forums for that. i'm sure someone on the acer forums has tried upgraded that laptop and could probably give you more info as far as a gpu upgrade goes as well.

the 5740 does not have a removable graphics card, Acer USED TO make laptops with mxm cards but they have basically stopped doing that on all their notebooks basically.
