Acer Intros Blazing Fast Predator XB271HU Display

Acer bolstered its high-end gaming monitor lineup with the new Predator XB271HU. This 27-inch gaming-grade monitor boasts of a refresh-rate as high as 165 Hz, and is bolstered by NVIDIA G-SYNC. Featuring a near frame-less design, which its makers refer to as "Zero Frame Design," and a feature-rich red+black stand that allows height, tilt, swivel, and rotation; the XB271HU offers an IPS display panel with WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, 4 ms response time, and 350 cd/m² maximum brightness. Acer also introduced the XB271HK, which is essentially an XB271HU with a 4K Ultra HD IPS panel that does 60 Hz, instead of the blistering 165 Hz WQHD panel. This panel offers 4 ms response time, 300 cd/m² maximum brightness. Both displays feature G-SYNC adaptive-sync tech, and take input from DisplayPort 1.2 connectors. The XB271HU is priced at $799, and the XB271HK at $899.

I really like the narrow bezels. Its even narrower than my PG278Q.
Having G-Sync enabled at the same time as ULMB would be probably my next upgrade whenever that happens to be. As well as IPS of course.

My friend is currently deciding between this and the ROG PG279Q

Reading is a virtue:

the XB271HU offers an IPS display panel with WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels)

Acer also introduced the XB271HK, which is essentially an XB271HU with a 4K Ultra HD IPS panel that does 60 Hz, instead of the blistering 165 Hz WQHD panel.

AFAICT they're both IPS panels but only the 60Hz panel is 4k.

This will feature the same panel as used in the PG279Q, so it's not going to be much different, if at all. All these 2560x1440 IPS G-Sync displays come with panels made by AUO which are highly prone to IPS glow and bleed. Just read around... I'd stay well away from this if I were you, unless you want to enter in to the high odds lottery of getting a good one. It is possible, they're not ALL bad, but many are. 165Hz is a complete and utter gimmick also by the way.

Isn't that more of a preference thing? I would rather take 4k but, that's only because I don't play fast paced games anymore and would welcome the better image quality.

Will likely fall short of Hz promise (as with previous models, if you trust tft central reviews).

So that it isn't 165hz monitor. (afair their 144hz wasn't even 110hz in that sense, gtg took way too long)

It will perform as slower monitor would.

no different from doing 30 or so fps on a 60hz monitor.
It aint perfect, but thats what G-sync / Freesync are for, in this monitors case G-sync so be sure you have a G-sync capable Nvidia gpu if you are buying this one.

ULMB and G-Sync can never work together at the same time, you and everyone else need to stop believing it can. ULMB flashes the backlight at fixed intervals while G-Sync matches the frame rate with what the GPU is outputting. They are anathema to each other. It's like trying to mix oil and water. It doesn't work.

I prefer the bezel and round foot of the XB270HU. Though that looks like matte black, which is better than the shiny.

For those not in the know, this is Acer's version of the ASUS PG279Q.

Hopefully this monitor is cheaper than the ASUS (I can take the lower build quality, and I'll be mounting it to a multi-monitor stand anyway via the VESA mounts).

Just picked one up this afternoon from Acer's website. (Have been stalking the XB271HU on nowinstock)

I had the PG279Q on back-order through the egg, but canceled it after reading around that Acer seems to have gotten the build and QC right on this one. With the way they are installing the panels in there, there is minimal BLB and IPS Glow seems to be low. Compared to the Asus, who again is a panel lottery and almost a guarantee for yellow text. TMMV
