The Acer Predator GM7 uses Maxio's new MAP1602A controller paired with YMTC 128-Layer TLC at an aggressive price point of only $66 for the tested 1 TB version. Our review confirms, this new drive is able to match the performance of famous drives like Samsung 980 Pro and WD Black SN850.

I wouldnt even use this as a data drive, the 4K QD4 results are woefully bad.

and yet it's the 5th fastest drive in the test group.. just shows how useless synthetic testing is

Your work PC probably doesn't even do QD4 at 1% of the time

YMTC = built on stolen technology . No thanks, I'll spend a few dollars more for a good brand that uses trustworthy suppliers.

It's amazing how cheap it is getting to get decent nvme drives. Still happy with my KC3000 1TB I got for $90, its dropped to $80 since I bought it, and in W1zz's review it was like close to 200 I believe at the time of launch. It's wild. Prices are getting so good...

Pretty serious claims, I'd love to test them? What's "extreme load" and is it happening on any of our PCs?

Wow, $100 for 2TB at this level of performance?

Let's hope these prices translate to retail pricing when they hit Europe.

I want 100% made in EU.
LOL, no.

All of these are made in Southeast Asia, mostly Taiwan/Korea/Japan. You might find some Micron/Soldigm SSDs using parts made in the USA.

There is only one NAND manufacturing facility in the whole of Europe, from a Tiny Polish company called GoodRam who I've never heard of. Even if the NAND for an SSD was made there by GoodRam, the rest of the silicon on the SSD would come from outside Europe.

All the result of short-sighted greed. We should be manufacturing things all over the world. Particularly things that are profitable and can provide good jobs. Here in the US, we are woefully guilty of contributing to this. If anything, history should have taught us that tyrants can come from anywhere, at any time, becoming dependent on one region will eventually cause problems. This will be true until hopefully one day we as humans can figure out how to get along and work together for the greater good.

I'm with you on this one W1zz. People act like writing a quarter of the drive's capacity in one go is considered a realistic use case. I mean, let's be honest here, how often are people writing at full sustained write speed for 150GB worth of data (when write performance starts to drops off)? If somebody says "downloading games," going to smack them because the internet is your bottleneck. Copying data? How often is that really happening for >150GB? It's kind of like the 4QD 4k performance. How often are you really doing that?

All in all, another fine review. Thank you, sir.

The only silicon fab I'm aware of in the EU is Dresden, and I'm not aware they make NAND there.

Then you should buy the Corsair I reviewed today and not the GM7 ;) https://www.techpowerup.com/review/corsair-mp600-core-xt-2-tb/4.html
Ordinarily I would but A) isnt not much faster than my 960 was when it was new and B) there is a drive coming ot market that has cracked 100MB/s 4kQD1 reads, I will be interested to see your review on it -
