Hi I have a

DELL Inspiron AIO 5400 23.8" All-in-One PC

and I want to do a clean install of the latest windows 10 home but it wants me to put in the administrator password where would I find this. Dell warranty ran out last month and they won't help is there a work around.

try "Admin" without the quotes, if it's not that try just a blank password, if that doesn't work backup files and do a clean install from a usb stick

Hi I am trying to do a clean install from a USB stick and as soon as I select it in the bios that is when I get the message, I have also tried an older win 10 disc and the same happens. I will try admin

Could also be "Dell" without the quotes

You can also remove the password by shorting the bios/cmos clear pins with a screwdriver (just need to quickly touch them together if you don't have a proper clip like from the back of an old ide cdrom), this might be difficult/impossible with an all in one.

"password" as the password is common on brand new protected things.

sometimes case sensitive
admin or Admin
password : no capitalization

be aware that dell hard drives are factory encrypted. this has already given me at least 2000 more gray hairs. the 10 DELL OS version is not a standalone OEM SB version.

there are several restore partitions from factory default on your HDD behind your normal drive C: they are hidden (in total approx. 20GB large). i talk from experience from notebooks i have restored in the past. but i doubt the all in one PCs are very different. use F2 at startup (bios settings) try to reinstall it via those tools before u "kill" everything.

[have you ever - just for fun!!! - tried to install 11? then it only reads the 10 key and releases the OS.] this is btw a slippery way to renew all the things. if u need help i am willing to support u. but on your own risk then.

Dell and their bios passwords :-b It's been so long since i had to reset the Bios password, and it was on a ten-year-old Dell laptop i think the Bios had one, and it would Delete all the owers information on the bios, but doing so, i don't know if they have taken that out since that was a ten years old Laptop.

Did you try clearing the CMOS? Below is the manual PDF.

At the bottom of page 67 are instructions for clearing forgotten passwords, which will clear the admin password. Then you can reinstall Windows without any further issue. If that doesn't work, the paragraph above(starting at the bottom of page 66) describes clearing the CMOS, which will definitely clear everything and you'll need to set the BIOS back up again, which is easy.

Do follow the instructions for opening the back of the system which are on page 9 to avoid damaging the system stand.

I'm kind of the local Dell guru here at TPU. I'll do my best to help you get that system up and running if you need any further help. I think the manual will help you fix your problem though.

Hi l removed hard drive and formatted it in my ssd enclosure and I was very relieved when it allowed me to a fresh install I have almost got everything copied back over. Thanks for all the help and advice.
