I just installed the latest 12.4 AMD drivers. My resolution is 2560x1440.

My game's properly installed on Steam.

But as soon as I attempt to play the game doesn't start and I get this error?

I tried to lower my resolution down to 1920x1080, and even to 1024x768 (ugh) but I still get the same error.

What gives here?

Nvm it worked now. I just had to delete a file called resolution.xml from c:\users\<userid>\documents\Remedy\AlanWake.

Duh. :wtf: :shadedshu

kinda dumb that you had to delete a file to get it to work. But thanks for the heads up should I run into a similar issue.

spoiler alert: the game gets boring soon.

I disagree, I liked Alan wake, it was very different. Maybe it wasn't paced to your liking. But that doesn't mean for everyone who plays it , it will become boring. Everyone is not you..lol.

There's a thread on the Steam forums where updating to W7 SP1 helped, but a file edit was required, changing the res listed in it as 1280h, 720w.

As far as whether the game's worth playing, it takes someone that is looking for a suspense/horror type feel. At that it accomplishes it's goal, even if the story is a bit weird and contrived.

The game also has that old style survival horror feel that a lot of horror games have lost. Meaning you can't just shoot your way out of a situation, it takes timing and conserving your inventory.

Some parts of the game are just downright frustrating in that you'll be doing well dodging and saving ammo, only to be thrust into the next level stripped of all your inventory and facing waves of enemies.

Frustrating, yes, boring, no. Unless you play more than once on the easiest level maybe, or just aren't into suspenseful survival/horror type games.

BTW, for those that hated the excessive blur like I did, there's a mod to remove it.

well you end up doing the same shit over and over again: running towards light, flashing ghosts and killing them. But i agree it is pretty diff from other games, and is a welcome change.

Lots of action games have similar combat throughout, but there can still be enough variety to maintain interest.

Can you guys help me, I have the same problem, but the thing is that there's no remedy folder in programs. What else can i do to solve this crap?
