Amd 2200+ does it really live up to the model number?

does the amd sempron 2200+ relly live up to it's model number?
the vendor i got the processor from said that it supports 2.2 ghz while the system says 1.5 ghz. i am confused. the amd site says that the processor has a high ipc( instructions per clock cycle) and the overall performance equals to 2200+. (mhz x ipc += overall performnce) can some one please clear up this probelm?

In response to the topic starter-
The Sempron 2200 performs about the same as a Celeron 2.2 GHz (different applications vary). It runs at 1.5 GHz, because AMD's do more work per clock cycle.

A general way to look at this is multiply the clockspeed of an AMD times 1.5, which should equal about the clockspeed of the Intel it is equal to.

This doesnt really apply to newer AMD's (Athlon 64 etc.) because they are even more efficient and may run at lower speeds than an older generation AMD, but be much faster.

AMD's do 9 IPC's, and Intel P4's do 6. So if you work that out, it's the same thing as Wazz said about mulitplying by 1.5. With the A64 having an integrated memory controller, thats why the A64 tends to shine in performance clock for clock as well.

Check the CPU DB. It depends if the 2GHz is for a P4 or a Athlon, but usually it will run. When you see 2.4GHz P4 or 2.4GHz Athlon, you could easily run it with a 1.8GHz Athlon.

The game sims 2 requires a t&l capable video card. if the sytem doesnt have one, atleast 2 ghz processor is required. if the 2200+ does have this much the gaame should run smooth. it doesnt. when scrolling around the frame rate falls. when the camera is in a fixed position frame rate picks up agian. what is teh reson? i have 64 mb via/s3g unichrome igp.

Okay this is WAY too confusing for what he's asking. Am!r, that is the way AMD processors are sold, it's the way they market and the reason they're cheaper than Pentiums. By saying it's a 3200+ or a 2200+ or 2800+ or anything, AMD says that to compete with Intel's 3.2ghz, 2.2ghz, 2.8ghz, etc. processors. Because of their "IPC"s they don't need as high a clock and can perform as well or better than the Intel equivalent with a much slower clockspeed.

SO IN SHORT, YOUR SEMPRON 2200+ RUNNING AT 1.5GHZ IS EXACTLY WHAT IT SHOULD BE RUNNING AT, THERE ISN'T A PROBLEM. IT SHOULD COMPETE WITH INTEL'S CLASS (AMD Sempron=Intel Celeron) WELL, SO FIND A NEW 2.2GHZ CELERON D AND COMPARE IT TO YOUR SEMPRON 2200+ AND IT'LL BE ABOUT THE SAME.

your sempron is working as it should be and you have a good product so be happy with it

take the case of my xp-m 2600+, it's default speed are 2000MHz with a 133 FSB, wich has a similar performance as a P4 2.6, now i've clocked it and is working @ 2650 with a 230 FSB (http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=57855), and it's performance is compared with a p4 aroud 3.6 and 4.0

as said above is efficiency is the key feature in amd cpus since the introduction of the XP model, more performance for each hertz

Drop the settings as low as you can get them. Minimum requirements mean at lowest settings.

i will bring my p4 660 back down to stock speeds and it will dust your 2600 oced

also i own a celeron 2.2 a couple years ago with an ati 9250 (256mb ddr1 verison) and it sucked then so how is the 2200+ a nice processor

Your system is quite more recent then mine, you will surelly get better result due to some new technology, I'm using a 3 year old technology (except for the graphics card) and even so except for high demanding memory bandwith required programs you would no get a big advantage.

if it's a sempron socket 754 it will have built in memory controler that is a really big deal in performance result

Tony how the hell did you hit 2.6ghz? I hope not with air. My 3200+ only hit 2.5ghz, and almost everyone with 2600+'s (Mobile) hit 2.5 also.

i've hit mine on air (2.65) with and sp-97 + 92mm fan with as5 doing aroud 45º C full load, and if I lower the fsb i'm quite sure it wil pass 2.7
