Hi All,
As per the thread header, this CPU is a so hot cookie to buy right now, didn't AMD see this coming? are they facing manufacturing issues? kind of a similar situation took place with 7800X3D before it was flooded all over and hit lowest offers round 330USD or Euros depending on where you're then it went up so bad due to 9800X3D being so rare, is AMD facing issues? are they making the market dry for it on purpose? even pre-orders are going above MSRP now at this rate! should the situation be better soon? AMD promised so with new X3D chips coming "Soon"? I don't know :/

AMD did not see this coming. They also didn't imagine arrow lake was going to flop as hard, and I think they thought Zen 5 would sell better overall.

That being said they don't have manufacturing issues afaik, and in true amd fashion they will flood the market right in time to miss the holidays.

Check your local MicroCenter, most have them in stock, or they restock them quickly when sold out.

I just checked the Denver store near me and they have twentyfive in stock right now. The Denver store has had them in stock off and on since launch day,.. they sell out quickly. :)

TSMC is the one who is solid booked, not AMD.

do you recommend waiting to buy one then? maybe by end of Jan 2025?!

This is just eye watering :( I can't buy from it since I am not located in USA... but omfg, seeing it online for MSRP is just eye watering

for the X3D part you mean? other Zen5 parts are all over the place

Could have something to do with it being mostly better than the other Zen5 competition.

Shame, because I did. Posted this on the 31st October 2024 in the news article - AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Allegedly Priced at $480:

"I can see this price tag going up a fair bit if they end up being kick ass CPU's and have no available stock as people will be on waiting lists etc".

9000 non 3D models sold like crap, so whether they saw the rush for the 9800X3D coming or not was irrelevant at that point. It's not like waiting and building up even bigger stock is a better idea when they have to move chips anyway.

Arrow is cold, and I guess Raptor is as well judging by amzn sales. That kind of low competition is rare these days.

Just because a company sees something coming, doesn't mean they can do something about it. At least they didn't launch the other 3D models at the same time.

I assume you're not in a rush to replace your 7800X3D, and perhaps you don't use that GPU with it?

I thought the 4nm node was fine though? They're booked on N3 for all the AI chips no? N4C/N4 variants are available afaik, not sure though.

I had it sold to a friend of mine who had a tight budget and wanted 7800X3D so I was like: Sure Broski! All yours!
I am waiting on 50 series now, hopefully our friend in leather jacket drops better prices this time.

I have used NowInStock and lots of patience today, coffee and all my organs crossed not only fingers a d this happened.

I got so lucky for MSRP!! Now I don't know when it will Actually come; Amazonhas always been punctual with delivery dates if not earlier, so I will see how it goes this time around!

There was a topic where I predicted a "paper launch". Some disagree with my "paper launch" argument.

When you have a lot of money, connections and a kredit card you most likely could preorder a processor

-- I wonder where the 16 core processors are with that x3d Cache on both cpu dies.

I randomly checked my sellers several times in central europe. There was never a single processor for sale. e.g put it in the basket, pay and get it delivered.

It's insane, we still don't have Arrow Lake available here, the 245K and more rarely the 265K sometimes their KF counterparts. 285K is unobtainium, any store selling it is operating on the basis of a long-term import and won't have the chip available in stock.

9800X3D is in the same boat, with "preorders" booked as far as April in the stores I know. Standard Ryzen availability is okay, you can get a 9950X just fine. 7800X3D/7950X3D is also quite available, and it remains that no one wants to buy the 7900X3D. Sheesh. I hope 5090 availability isn't this bad...

What is truly insane is that all of the As Rock high end boards are Out of Stock already. If you did not get one it probably won't be until after Xmas.

Overwhelming demand doesn't mean paper launch. MC had it in stock in sveral stores ten days after launch, not really possible if it's a paper launch.

Someone here can probably remind us about when Nvidia did a paper launch a long time ago. They sent out cards to reviewers, reviews did go live, then nothing.

I guess it's just an exaggeration, just like calling brand X a "brand Y killerzzz" when a product takes a >0.03 performance lead. Clickbait language.

Doesn't make it true tho lol...

It's definitely not a paper launch in the states... Europe not so sure.

Only US has some stock and you have to go to pick it yourself - Amazon prices are just stupid; least is 700 USD now.

AMD miscalculated this - maybe with TSMC invovlded - making it a living hell to pick up this CPU for the price it's aimed for.

9000X3D was scheduled for Q1 2025 anyway.
The reason for the "early" launch of 9800X3D was the interruption of ArrowLake.

Price here is crazy too
800~1100€:kookoo:

Out of stock with no ETA locally in my city (Perth Australia), and the price has crept up again too, bearing in mind we usually do pay some more than USD MSRP anyway....

Launch price was - $799 AUD or about $509 USD
After initial batch was sold price increased to - $829 AUD or about $528 USD
Current price for when stock arrives - $859 AUD or about $547 USD

I don't mind paying the currency conversion difference + geo-tax and so, but looking at these prices, AMD is just watching from afar and be like: Not my Circus not my monkeys? at least they should have posted a 3 seconds video: Do Not Support Scalpers, or so.

I hope the situation gets better so soon, I know many players who want to build or update their rigs for a 9800X3D!

Micro Center has to exist in more than like 12 localities before this advice is ever sound, just saying. Yes, let's all go 1000+ miles to our "local" Micro Center for a PC component.
I live in Colorado, the Denver store is less then a one hour drive from my house.

There are 28 Micro Center stores in 19 states in the United States. The company is planning to open three more stores in Indianapolis, Charlotte, and Miami before 2025.

Dallas store advertised the same thing a few days ago with 25+ in stock.

If your in the USA you don't really have any issues getting them and if they do sell out they seem to get new stock pretty quick. The rest of us, Well that's another matter. I haven't even seen one in stock anywhere for weeks in Canada. but the second I do I'll buy one.

Miami is open... got mine from there. Before that GA Atlanta was the closest store.

Op, wait for amazon if you put the preorder. Unless you have a friend in those cities with Microcenter that can pick the chip for you and ship it.
if From microcenter, i just can tell you to check every night- early morning (5am) that's were I've seen "in stock" 25+
but they sold fast before 8am.
Good luck

dont pay scalper prices and wait, there are more hobbies that you can enjoy and is just one month wait top.
Get into Gunpla for example :D

I believe stock will come back to normal after Dec.

Even Gunpla gets scalped :D people with bots and tons of CCs are ruining it for everyone :( check Baldur's Gate 3 Collector's Edition situation and the comment of one of the game creators saying: It's meant for gamers to enjoy it... not to be scalped or so :/
