I wasn't sure where to put this?
Hat's off to Lisa Su who seems very approachable and down to earth.

It was a good watch, iirc she even called Jensen brilliant - I'd wager there's a lot of mutual respect there.

Hopefully she stays at the helm a while longer and keeps building on success they've had, I'd love to see RTG get more love, but I'd wager they're probably already on a course to improve that in several ways.

I like her. but where the hel were they till now? why didnt they push with gpu too when they decided to bring her in.

what I want to see is intel coming up the back and amd will have no choice but to react or be 3rd.

thats what happened to nikon (the brand I shoot with) they are hardly a blip on the map today. they had many issues, didnt deliver. sony moonwalked right past them they went straight at canon. and nikon will not bounce back. guaranteed. even after buying RED.

I hope amd wakes up. what worries me is when the gpu exec says they arent going for flagship level. so what tier are they going for, cause I dont care for the xx50 xx60 xx70 tier cards. only xx80 and xx90. I think nvidia will leave intel and amd to fight over whos the best of the mediocre cards and put in minimal effort making cards fatter heavier more power hungry and thieving prices and leather boy is going to keep laughing his asz off.

competition is good for us. lets go amd + intel.

The vast majority of people don't care for these super-high-end models. It's beyond their financial realm and frankly, beyond their tech acumen. I'd argue many go as far as seeing products such as these as wasteful, a feeling that is particularly prevalent with AMD's core customer base and often a vocal point of contention. Most gamers are happy with an RX 6600; they don't really have the resources for anything better. Sales figures on halo cards are skewed right now because people who don't play nor care for video games are buying these for their high compute power, mostly so they can run LLMs and AI workloads or mine crypto; the RX 7900 XTX and the RTX 4090 are being sold primarily to this unintended market rather than actual gamers.

Also, 6969th post. Funny number. :lovetpu:

I would not include the 7900XTX. It is a quarter of what the 4090 can cost where I live.

I use my 7900XTX for gaming, and while I could have spent twice as much on a 4090 no RT in games that I want to play and the fact that RT isn't "legitimate" to me in it performance and implementation in games makes it a non-starter.

They could make better game NPC/AI and make games more immersive instead.

I thoroughly enjoyed the interview as well and, as others have said, it just goes to show that an engineer in charge can make all the difference. Emily Chang clearly knows her stuff and is a good interviewer as well.

It is vastly cheaper than the 4090, yes, but that 24GB buffer (and to a little lesser extent, the 20GB on the XT) does LLM well when no CUDA is required.

Exactly they have time to sort the things out. Sack this lady already, and hire someone who has a better vision, and more importantly - can compete with the gigantic Nvidia.

That seems like a baseless statement. Under Su AMD has been like a Phoenix and now have Intel in the rear view mirror. If you want to look at Radeon success look at Germany. In Germany the mindshare that Nvidia enjoys is not as strong and there is also cards like the 6700XT that were not just well regarded but sold well as well. You can't blame AMD for the tech media picking RT as a positive across the stack though so comments like the 7900XT should have been named the 7800XT became common even when the actual 7800XT was released. Of course that became the 6700XT replacemnt and then the 7700XT lanuched to meh reviews. All because they don't have DLSS. Now the excuse is price for the 580 to be recommended. I want to see the hypocrisy when the next AMD Card launches at CES when they announce the prices.

Why fire Lisa Su? Their vision on AMD has been very successful, AMD is doing just fine on the CPU front, and competing in the mid range on gpu's makes a lot more sense than trying to compete with Nvidia on the high end.

During Covid Inwin released an AIO called the SR series. No one reviewed it. It was the best AIO you could get as it came with 2 pumps on the head and was a breeze to install. The best though was that the 360 version was less than $100 Canadian. It is called the In Win SR36. Before I found Thermalright they were my defacto coolers for high end builds. There is a new Phanteks case out too.

Under Lisa Sue's leadership AMD went from nearly bankrupt to surpassing Intel. Yes they are late on the AI boat but they also hit the motherload with chiplets.

Do not let the perfect become the enemy of the good.

I must agree, and the selective prioritization of some of their businesses was a necessary evil to ensure the company's growth. Epyc overtaking Xeon propelled AMD´s stock to the moon, Ryzen's strong performance did not disappoint in the DIY and OEM channels, and yes, they have put struggling businesses like Radeon under a lesser light, but given all the margins and shareholder responsibility involved, sink the business that matters the least. Xilinx and their specialty ASIC business should get AMD in the AI boom with a generous head start, so I cannot say I blame Su for anything that has transpired so far. She has done AMD and its investors well, and I guess that is ultimately what it is all about.
