AMD demonstrated at the CeBit electronics exhibition its first 45nm quad-core chips running multiple operating systems and a range of processing intensive applications. The processors were produced in Dresden, Germany, in AMD's Fab 36 300mm manufacturing facility, using an advanced 45nm process co-developed with IBM.

AMD 45nm transistors are engineered to enable greater performance-per-watt capabilities in AMD processors and platforms. AMD combines new processes and materials with leading edge technologies, such as immersion lithography and AMD's fourth-generation strained silicon, for a highly-manufacturable, highly-efficient production process.

This important milestone is the first of many as AMD moves toward delivery of 45nm products later this year. The first 45nm chips demonstrated by AMD include the "Shanghai" product for server and "Deneb" for desktop platforms.

Nice! This is the competition I have been waiting for...Too bad Intel's Six Core die is on the horizon, but I could care less about those processors.

Price drops on the way people!

is the Deneb just a die shrink of the Phenom?

I would have thought so - it would be too soon after the release of Phenom to have a brand new architecture up and running.

Hopefully we'll see some Engineering Sample previews in the not so distant future.

Hey, looks like there's a little bit of life left in them. Die-shrink or no, this is pretty neat. :D

I dont care about "features" until we see some REAL WORLD ACTION. Show me some benchies. If the price/performance ratio >> intel, then AMD are back in business.

Fingers crossed!

i hope this makes amd competitive with intel again:toast:

What kind of statement is that? AMD is competitive with Intel, or they would already be bought by Intel.

If AMD isn't Intels competition, then Intel doesn't have any competition.

AMD has had a different view point as of lately, better prices for a little less preformance.

Intel is...Better preformance with a bigger price tag.

hopefully these are the new phenoms coming out like the 9700-9900 they are supposed to clock good and have better cache :toast:

atm intel is stomping all over amd, and their dual and a few quads are very competetivly priced with their amd counterparts, maybe like $10 more in some cases, granted amd is their major competition, but face it their latest gen a processors were a huge disapointment causing a good chunk of people to switch to intel, also what i ment by that statement is that maybe amd can redeme themselves by producing something that can match or beat intels 45nm offerings, by competitive i ment performance, not actual business competition

I'm just stating that you said, and I quoted, that you hope this makes amd competitive with intel again. I simply stated they are competitive.

I'm not going into 300mhz benchmark gains on intel or anything.:slap:

hey nice1, hopefully they will clock decently

Once again, AMD proves it is not falling behind technology-wise. 45nm is a must for the big quads today, even if performance is the same as their 65nm products. but hey, they surely tweaked the core and memory controller a bit, and streamlined the TLB bug fix (b3 stepping).

If the price is right, i see no reason why they won't be competitive.

The high-res press-kit pic is my wallpaper now. :D

The Denreb seems just a die-shrunk Barcelona. There hasn't been much of a stop gap between the release of Barcelona and this news surfacing. Funny part is the Barcelona chips are either recalled or out-of-stock or out-of-production batch schedule. No e-tailer I've come across is stocking Barcelona chips. Something tells me they're re badging them to Agena or that they're in a hurry to bring Denreb out.....each time AMD makes such an announcement, its stocks go up in the stock-markets.

the pics of the dies look awesome!

we now need side by side pics of AMDs 45nm and Intels, then see which looks the sickest :)

This is great news. I just wished they had come up with it before I switched to Intel, but oh well, nothing a future upgrade and selling of my current parts won't take care of :p

Fantastic news. I dont think it would be too soon for a new architecture as maybe this was what Phenom was supposed to be?

yeah phenoms would be good at around 3+ GHz! and at lower cost and power, i like it. Bout time IBM put an end to the AMD bashing, haha JK. But no really, doesnt IBM have a graphene manufacturing process in the works?

IBM probably has a weaponry-focused moon base in the works -- I'm sure they can handle whatever AMD needs. :D

Yay! Im gonna go AMD again once they release some cheap(er) quads :D

IBM moon base FTW :D
good to see the underdogs have a demo product.
price drops are good for everybody, has amd managed to get that phenom bug fixed btw? im not sure i havent read much about amd for a while.

^ Yeah, they eliminated the TLB bug and renamed the cpu's from eg. 9500 to 9550, 9600 to 9650 and so on. the new stepping with the fixed bug is B3. pre-fix are B2.
