AMD FSR 3.1 with Quality Improvements and Native-AA Comes to Six New Titles

I don't see a huge difference from your selected videos, it's coming down to complaining about a couple of brown rice grains in your white rice bowl now.

But also, I think it's flawed to use an Nvidia GPU for FSR. Nvidia does not optimize their drivers for FSR and even though it's hardware-agnostic, AMD does not optimize it either for Geforce cards. Reading around the web, actual Radeon users are reporting major improvements with 3.1.
He isn't wrong about the shimmering I mentioned it above and tested it on a Radeon. I can add my own capture to this post later.

Its better than FSR 2.2 that is for sure.

Didn't realise Nixxes already updated their existing games all at the same time for it. Fired up Spiderman Miles Morales, first impression of FSR 3.1 upscaling at 4k quality was decent, looked sharp straight lines in distance not immediately shimmering, good start! turn on FG, crash to desktop. Sigh. I'll try Ratchet and Clank later and hope for a better experience.

So AMD helping pre-DLSS Nvidia owners keep their cards is BS?

It prevents me from being able to enable low latency mode on my monitor, which causes ghosting at higher contrast levels. Ironically, freesync causes worse tearing in some scenarios when the framerate isn't stable. I have a suspicion it was causing some games to stutter, or rather the output to stutter, not the game itself.
There must be something wrong with your other settings. Freesync is especially useful with unstable frame rates, letting your monitor synchronise its refresh rate with it, smoothing out any inconsistency.

AMD, which released FSR 3.1, canceled the RX 8900 XTX graphics card with RDNA 4 architecture. I think something is going wrong in the AMD graphics department. It even goes wrong in the processor department. I think AMD should change its management team.

This post sounds like nonsense trolling.

Likely the same user's that previously claimed fsr was just as good as DLSS. I own and use cards from both. I still find fsr as unusable, and DLSS as an always on option. I play single player games, new releases at 1440p. I use DLSS because the newest version 3.7 with preset E looks nearly identical to DLAA. I don't care about the performance increase, I use it for the better AA and image stability.

It's not on my end. Here's another user with the same issue and a workaround using CRU, from over 3 years ago.

I noticed a tear strip, like 20 or so pixels tall in the middle of the screen. Above and below it were the same frame, but the strip was a few frames behind.

What monitor is that?

AOC AG271QX. Listed as AG271QG4 in device manager.

In my opinion, they just decided to allocate more capacity at TSMC to instinct accelerators, which is much more profitable than any gaming product will ever be.

They also reduced spending on RDNA4 and prioritized increased investment in R&D, focusing specifically on accelerating the development of RDNA5. it seems very similar to what happened with RDNA and RDNA2.

Tried Ratchet and Clank and while it didn't crash to desktop, FSR 3 super resolution seems to have a bug, all presets have expected performance except quality which is well below expected, FG works without crashing but without quality mode working as expected it seems like it's for nothing, DLAA + FG works alright locked at 120fps but DLSS Q at 90-110 fps feels much better, the latency hit even with a controller feels pretty average. Unfortunately making quite a poor 1st impressions with a game crash, bugged preset and lacklustre feel when working, quality barely matters if they can't sort the rest out.

This is a good video that shows the shimmering so there is still work to be done here.

Funny, i updated Spider-Man, GoT and R&C and as soon as i turn on FSR 3, frame gen... the games crash instantly. GoT had FSR 3 and it used to work great before this new update. Yay.... I know i know, the game work fine for you, so it's all my fault. I get it. Tell that to my 80% walkthrough... shame i cant finish the game now. Maybe i can rollback the update somehow? Gotta love PC gaming, same thing happened to The last of us. Nvidia driver bug for months, i was stuck at 90%, they JUST TODAY fixed this issue. You know, the 8GB VRAM is not enough issue/bug. I swear, even waiting 1 year for bugfixes is sometimes not enough to play games after 2017. GoT works, but frame gen has to be off... which means i cant play with my native resolution anymore. The input lag was fine, playing in native is gorgeous, now i gotta settle for a blurry mess.

I've seen reports on the net of crashing with FG.

I don't use that at all so never noticed it on any of my play sessions.

I tested FSR 3.1 in spiderman remastered and there is alot of texture shimmering if you go to the park and view the trees from a building. So there is still work to be done.
That is the only glaringly bad issue I have seen in either Spiderman game too. Probably would not have noticed it if I wasn't stopping everywhere because I was evaluating the IQ. On my 5600X3D and 7800XT SFF box using FSR AA+FG with every setting maxed out, it looks good beyond those instances like the trees. And I am usually web slinging through not sight seeing so it's non issue for me. It is a high refresh experience too.

I get crashing if I use XeSS AA instead of FSR AA, but with all FSR features my all AMD test system is silky smooth and issue free in both Spiderman games.

For the last time it was cancelled due to the high complexity of the 20 chiplet design. It will be appearing in RDNA 5. RDNA4 is monolithic. If they wanted to get RDNA 4 with chiplets working, it would have delayed the product another year. RDNA5 is progressing very nicely apparently.

FSR3.1 still nowhere close to DLSS huh

I welcome the positive steps in the right direction, but it seems like there's still a hill to climb both in image quality and actual feature polish and usability.

the AMD feature that allows any game to have frame gen, I tried it in a few games, and it smooshes all the pixels wrong in the games I tried it in, it looks weird and doesn't feel smooth at all. I'm sticking with traditional raster only for now. I plan to get a rtx 6090 upgrade in maybe 2-4 years or whenever that one comes out. nvidia's AI features should be pretty mindblowing around then.
You are talking about afmf, the driver based solution. Yes, that's crap. The actual fsr 3 is good though, it's really on par with nvidia's frame gen.
