AMD Introduces New Desktop Processors

AMD today introduced the new energy-efficient 45-watt AMD Athlon 64 single-core 3500+(2.2GHz, 512KB L2 cache) and 3800+(2.4GHz, 512KB L2 cache) desktop processors. The new energy-efficient AMD Athlon 64 processors 3500+ and 3800+ are based on 65nm technology. Using the reduced line widths enabled by 65nm technology, AMD can produce more processors on a 300mm wafer while manufacturing processors designed for low-power consumption, reinforcing AMD's commitment to energy-efficient computing. And for those who crave high performance, AMD has also introduced the AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor 6000+(3.0GHz, 2MB total dedicated L2 cache). These new processors are expected to be immediately available in the channel and from OEMs including Alienware, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Systemax and Voodoo, representing the latest in a succession of innovations based on the award-winning AMD64 processor architecture. Pricing for the 65nm energy-efficient AMD Athlon 64 processors 3500+ and 3800+ are $88 and $93, respectively in 1KU. Pricing for the new AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor 6000+ is $464 in 1KU.

AMD should concentrate on K10 now. K8 is dead and they must accept that.
The AMD fan-boys will still buy Athlon 64's for a few months, wich is enough time for them to release K10.

amd has the k10 in production but they need to keep making k8 chips because they have demand for them, it would be stupid to just stop making chips till k10's are ready, removing all their products from the market would be STUPID, suicide, corse intel fanbois would love that as well, till their intelprices skyrocketed anyway

these new k8 chips offer a value to those who are looking to move to k10 once prices drop but want something CHEAP NOW, or who already have am2 and want to have the best stock am2 they can get(u know the crazy ppl who buy fx chips)

if i could swap this 90nm 3500+ for a 65nm one i would, i would LOVE to see how far i could push them, since i am pretty sure they will be g2 cores(better overclockers using sigi)

k10 as with any new chip will be overpriced for a while then drop to a reasonable level, im most intrested in kuma and rana, dual core is PLENTY for apps of today and the next couple/few years

Agreed. It would be dumb to stop with the AM2 line. Im interested in seeing what the X26000+ is capable of. If I could swap out my X2 3800+ for a similar dual core built on a 65nm process, from the reports Ive seen, it would be sweet and almost compete with C2D.

It appears that there is still a CPU not announced but already listed at certain shops. That would be the first 65nm, 65W Athlon 64 including 2x1MB L2 Cache.

I care less about these, and I would rather see what they are really putting up against C2D and the Quad versions of C2D :|

Probably very easy too cool passivly, especially with C'n'Q. Will make very good HTPCs
