Instead of increasing the amount of cores linearl

You can't just increase the number of CUs like it's nothing. Execution units account for very little area compared to control/cache/registers, this is why everyone making something like a GPU would much rather increase the number of FPUs and minimize the size of the control logic. If they were to increase the number of CUs to match the same number of executions the chip would probably be so large it would be impossible to even manufacture.

Please stop pretending like you know better than the people who design these things.

Not surprised about the price, it will quickly go down to $200 - $220.
What i was expecting was at least +10% avg performance over the 6650 XT, as it stands now it's meh.

What amd should do now is overclock the coming 7600 XT to 4060 Ti levels and sell it for $300. They will never do that

EDIT: I think the $270 price will stay until 6600/6650 XT inventory dries up.

Well I think I remember the 6600 MSRP was $330. So this has a new media engine, more performance 2 more years of inflation and MSRP is $270. I don’t see anything to complain about. That’s about $365 CAD which is what some 6600 are going for here. Seems like a win to consumers to me.
MSRP of a 2+ year old GPU is irrelevant to a purchasing decision made today. RX 6600 go for 200-220$ new.

Good ideas there, I think they need to be split by segment though
I agree and there are lots of cools ways to segment like esports high refresh rate games/GPUs segment, RT/SS segment, pure raster segment, etc.

Btw, something like my idea would have meant the 4060TI would have received the ‘Good for the Earth’ award since it was in the top 5 on the efficiency chart. Very few would argue over such an award and let readers know that they are getting good frames per watt.

That's one theory that I'm having why they limited OC by SO much

IF true that is a pretty crappy way to segment a product. I know that is basically what they did with the 6000 refresh but still.

Yep. Last gen. Just like a last gen cpu. Last gen is less money now. But that’s not apples to apples.

That's one theory that I'm having why they limited OC by SO much

To me it seems the only 3 options for the 7600XT are as follows.

1) OC the balls off of N33 and give it 200W of power as well as 16GB of 20gbps VRAM since these models seem to have 20gbps already.
2) Use N32 but then we need to wait for N32 to actually release and the tendency is to cascade top down to catch the people who can't wait to upgrade at a higher tier.
3) don't bother with a 7600XT.

Option 1 might be okay at $300 - 320.
Option 2 with 12GB would probably a great $350 card since it could match a 6750XT in performance.

I think if this offered anything substantial like better FSR or much better power efficiency I'd be less harsh on it but the fact that it offers basically the same feature set at only a minor wattage improvement is just sad.

The only thing anyone is gaining from this card you would hope is longer driver support.

As for the price, one needs to be aware that the reference model has an abysmal cooling solution, that is far behind what NVIDIA FE offers. It artificially improves the price-to-performance ratio for AMD.

The apple is imaginary, MSRP of 330$ for the RX 6600 doesn't exist anymore.

I think the pulse is also 270 as well and it offers pretty decent cooling. This has always been the case with AMD reference designs also you would expect a 400 usd product to come with a better cooler.

From what GN says, it's a complete mess. Buggy drivers, uncoordinated launch, panic reaction to undercut... this card is every bit as disappointing as I said it would be - and it would have launched at the price I said it would too hadn't NVIDIA claimed a $300 MSRP for the 4060... but alas, finally a sub-$300 card that isn't complete and utter dogshit

This is a terrible graphics card no one should buy, except it's all we have for today - at least people will be able to play video games without selling their kidneys, I guess. The sad part is, these cards are so bad that they'll hardly exert market pressure for the others to come down alongside them. Ugh.

More garbage for the crypto boom/chip shortage market that no longer exists. I hope AMD/Nvidia's gaming market profits drop to the bottom this year.

I think the problem gamers are facing now is Nvidia cares more about AI and AMD is making more money from CPU/Consoles than the diy gpu market..... The prebuilt market won't be as effected due to buyers not being as educated on the latest tech basically higher number equals more better.

Yeah that review was pretty damning and actually this product made the previous gen RNDA 2 prices go up slightly from when I checked a couple days ago.

I gotta be honest with you chief for all the (rightful) spanking Nvidia got over the 4060 Ti, this card manages to be even worse. Steve spent half an hour mauling Nvidia for the 5 to 7.5% gains over the 3060 Ti, but according to W1zz's review, this card is a paltry 4% over the 6650 XT and at 1440p that shrinks to 2% and stays there at 4K. And AMD doesn't even have the feature upsell of DLSS 3, RTX remix features, etc.

The sole redeeming thing about it is the price. Bloody hell, AMD blew it even scurrying to lower the price

Well by naming it's a 6600 replacement amd was at least smart enough not to name it the 7600XT the problem is you can get the 6600 for around 70 usd less.... But yeah the generation of the sidegrade continues and AMD just seems content to play ball with Nvidia.

This one isn't highly recommended?
now now, don't get sarcastic because they actually didn't give an award to a product that didn't deserve it. It's more of a side-grade than an upgrade, and for a fair # of use cases the prior gen remains better, as mentioned in the review Thus, no broad "buy it!" recommendation. Don't be mean when they actually do the right thing by not giving baloney awards.
Maybe we're not getting it... maybe current gen cards aren't meant for generational upgrades. Maybe they're meant for people upgrading from 5-7 year-old systems, just like no one in their right mind upgraded from a Core i7 6700K to a 7700K back in the days.
yeah, these are less like 'new gen better product!' and more like 'btw, mild refresh of existing product' which makes sense if the product run goes long.

Both companies have done their part to save me money by making products not worth buying, at least! First time I'll skip my every-other-gen splurge since the nv 440. Thanks effective monopoly! :p

As I stated previously in the 4060 Ti thread neither AMD nor Nvidia have anything lower end that makes sense, they will be competiing with their yester year cards and lookie here, AMD are now just as trash as Nvidi at releasing todays low end cards.

Sure they named it a non-XT 7600, but this still uses the full die N33. This means all they have room for is a 7600 XT using this same silicon with buffed up clocks, OC allowance and perhaps 16 GB, which will give them maybe 10-15% at the cost of murdering its efficiency (and not change one thing about its positioning in the general landscape). It's not a comfy position to be in, IMO.

And I'm still rambling about N32 being unable to put out competitive performance vs. the RTX 4070 series. There's no other reason they'd launch the 7900 series, skip straight to this and pretend N32 doesn't exist when the 3070/RX 6800 were the most popular segments last generation, with ample room for a repeat this time.
