Translation: "Vega 10 is too slow to be launched now, it's somehow going to get more competitive as time passes, because each new NVIDIA GPU is slower than the last one."

You should ban yourself.

It is sad to see AMD in this position but they've put them self there so VEGA is kind of lame... Volta "2080" will probably hit the 1000$ mark

So, looking at at a mid 2018 launch then, great stuff

And i, and a friend of mine has been holding off for 4+ months because it was supposed to release.. way sooner

RIP AMD GPU's

Volta will probably release before RX Vega lmao

So disappointing, I waited the whole time for Raja to pop out and save it and he never came, I guess he was out partying again.

I'm just happy there are people like you. You go out and buy a video card not too far from a new launch, then go and buy a new one 2 months later, and I scoop up your 2 month old card on eBay for half of retail.

VEGA is now officially dead in the water, Computex just showed us that VEGA will be to little to late.

nVidia is going to crush the VEGA release with VOLTA GV104 in august. nVidia does not have to wait for GDDR6, they will just use the fastest GDDR5X in august and make a refresh to GDDR6 in 2018 Q1
Consumer Volta is not coming yet.

Im calling it. Vega is probably outdated before its even out. At this rate it'll be too close to Nvidia's Volta launch.
Navi is still several months from tapeout, it's best case launch date has now slipped to end of 2018. This means that Vega will compete with Volta, even though it was intended to compete with Pascal. Pascal is already midway through it's life cycle.

There is no point holding off, Vega wouldn't be a GP102 killer.

It's time people realize it, the only scenario where AMD catch up is if Nvidia decides to give up. AMD released an ambitious plan with three designs in three years; Polaris, Vega and Navi. Both Vega and Navi is already slipping. It's not realistic that AMD can keep up, not with their research budget cut, and spreading it too thin across way too many projects; Zen, K12, "skybridge"(now canceled), APUs and GPUs. They should have stuck with just Zen and GPUs, the others are just wasted billions.

AMD is just going to keep lagging behind.

AMD is just going to keep lagging behind.

In power efficiency it is currently behind, but I see only tiny gaps in performance per die size and features. Obviously the gap will get smaller and if Navi works, how I imagine it does, they will make a great comeback. Don't even bother to reply to this with your crystal ball arguments, as I'm not going to read them. But if you use projections, roadmaps, calculations, etc. and try to prove me how this is not possible, then I'm open for discussion ;).

Why HBM2, why? Gddr5x would do just fine and its game ready since q2 2016.
Main reason I guess for them to stick with HBM2 is that they are a part in its foundation and R&D team and they will have to pay less for those chips than most of us think imho. In addition to it, with 8GB HBM2 the need for more VRAM isn't a thing for the next 2-3 years imho. Even FuryX with just 4GB VRAM is better vs 980Ti on 4K than what happens on 1440P. Their risk didn't pay off till today though because of Hynix delay on HBM2 production. IF the performance is there though, they will sell Vega easily on the right price.

The computational load grows way faster than the extra memory load in 4K vs. 1440p, and considering Fiji is struggling with scheduling overhead, higher resolutions may saturate the GPU better.

HBM has been a huge mistake from AMD. It's not needed at all for the consumer market, and it probably wouldn't even for big Volta (GV102). AMD could have saved a lot of money and provided better product availability by choosing GDDR.

I want Vega mainly because G-sync monitors are insanely overpriced in any shape or form, I couldent care less what a brand is called, as long as i get the best i can for the money i pay for it - within reason.

(hint; GTX 560 Ti is more than 2 months old)

But to be nice, i really should update my system tab, im on a GTX 970 now, but thats also 'slightly' older than 2 months.

This is a shame, I don't want to wait any more. 1080Ti is on the cards now. I really wanted to support AMD (provided vega perfomed well). :(

On the plus side I prefer gsync to freesync, so now my internal monitor conflict is over. I know it adds a lot to the price, but matching the monitor frame rate to the gpu is better than simply skipping frames imo.

It's not like G-Sync and FreeSync are completely on par, especially with frame spikes and skips. G-Sync monitors uses a more advanced scaler, while FreeSync is available on lower-end monitors. G-Sync have a small premium, but are not insanely overpriced. If you're willing to pay for better features is up to you.

Yeah, Ive seen those tests too - apparently you want to limit your fps 3-5 fps below 144hz if you use a 144hz monitor for example, and use the high performance power profile (also very important when it comes to frame drops)

But least FreeSync generally has marginally lower input lag, in the area of "it doesnt really matter"

Salty?, no, im just pointing out that he made zero sense

And neither do you, really - "apply right now", what are you talking about? - what should apply right now?, or shouldent apply right now?

Because clearly i sold either of my cards "2 months later" Right?
