AMD Readies Ryzen 5 5500X3D Socket AM4 Processor with 3D V-Cache

^ Yep the era of 10% IPC...got my 3770K on clearance for that very reason, then sold it years later for $125
2012-2016 was known by me as the "CPU-malaise-era", but we weren't having catastrophic levels of CPU failures, except for FX-9590, mostly.

Yes, there was also that issue with Skylake, with the PCB bending, but that looks like nothing.

Sounds like Pentium 4 all over again, LOL.
it somewhat looks like it, AMD had the sense to add extra hardware and not just speculate on clocks going to 10Ghz like intel seemed to have thought back then.
Makes me wonder why it's not doing much better in predictable workloads like compression, it should be significantly better at that not just the few percent it is.

I wonder about the price. 5800X3D isn't worth 325euro when the 7800X3D costs 370. 5700X3D is 215 and 5600 is 110, 150(118 before tax) euro would be highest I would invest in my 7 years old platform. I just sold my 3800X for 75 euro(not sure why anyone would buy Zen2) and wanted the 5600 but now I better wait.

The 5800X3D has currently inflated market prices, probably because of word of mouth. I've seen a price disparity between the 5700X3D and 5800X3D that sometime exceed 75%

Why on the Earth should you need an X3D for a server? Why not slapping 12100F+H610 and calling it a day?

5500X3D, if becomes real, won't be very exciting. 5600X3D is already very low on clocks, any lower will become problematic. 5800X smells like a better choice.
Clocks arent that important for server type use I actually have XFR (core performance boost) disabled on my 5600G.

Price is important and in most parts of the world, 12100F+H610 combo is cheaper than any X3D CPU alone. I wasn't aware Brazil disagree with that tendency.

Not that a 12100F+H610M combo isn't "cheap" here, it is. ~$165 without RAM, ~$189 with cheapo 8GB DDR4. For comparison, a 5500+A520M kit goes for ~$195 without/~$218 with the same RAM.

So I wanna know what @Dr. Dro was smoking. This is more expensive than in Russia but it's not completely nuts.
Still, unless you want more MT performance and you want it bad, it's a killer perf per $ combo. And whatever X3D CPU will cost you more than 170 USD in Brazil.

The 12100F's apparently cheaper than the 300 LOL, 484 for the 12100F and 515 for the 300

Still there is a sizable gulf between both of these and even the 13100F, the 5700X3D is undisputed value king at 1300ish for Brazilian market right now, if this 5500X3D arrives at ~899 then it's going to be an unbeatable proposition. I think I'm gonna look at one of those Chinese X99 boards. I've the 4669 v3 basically stopped here since I got the 2680 v4 for my X99 build, a 18 core server on pennies sounds like a good deal to me. It's just... so worthless, these Xeons aren't even worth selling

By the time the 5500X3D reaches the UK with our tax it's likely to be around £170-£180, not sure who would buy it when if you shop around you can pick up a 5700X3D for £195.

What a witty way to open an article! Hats down to @btarunr!:lovetpu:

Now AMD is just trolling Intel’s constant socket changes with this chip.
Yeah but I can tell you AM4 socket fiasco with some chipsets, like A320. I could use 1st gen Ryzen and 3rd gen Ryzen, know how? I needed to REFLASH BIOS every time. (Latter BIOS=no OLD CPU support, LMFAO). Better socket change than this IDIOTIC "trend".

$199 ?, when you can get the 5700X3D for $210 right now.
If one has like 1600AF or very better 1200/1500 Ryzen, then, spending $200 seems wise for a just CPU upgrade. Otherwise, $200 "upgrade" for a like 6 yo socket seems stupid to me. And I doubt 5500X3D will be less than $150 - same, very DOUBTFUL "upgrade" price. I'd better getting some used 5800X or it's 3D sibling for like $150.

I wish they would just implement allowing the use a flashcard for UEFI/BIOS. Never have to worry about bricking UEFI/BIOS ever again. BIOS flashback no problem just swap out the flash card.
