AMD has released the AMD Software Adrenalin Edition Preview Driver which add support for AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) technical preview which is available in several games and only works on AMD Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards. AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) will be available as a part of FidelityFX Super Resolution 3.0 (FSR3), which is expected to launch tomorrow and supported in Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum games.

With the new AMD Software Adrenalin Edition Preview Driver, AMD enables Frame Generation on a driver level as "Fluid Motion Frame" option, which can be enabled via HYPR-X, or individually for each game by using the Global Graphics Settings page. AMD has an extensive list of over 20 titles, including Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Starfield, Hogwarts Legacy, The Last of Us Part 1, Far Cry 6, Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and others. AMD also notes that AFMF can also be manually for any title such as Cyberpunk 2077 using the per-app settings within AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.

DOWNLOAD: AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition Preview Driver for AMD Fluid Motion Frames

The AMD Software Adrenalin Edition Preview Driver only supports Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards, and AMD recommends that the AFMF is enabled for games running at a minimum of 55 FPS on 1080p and 70 FPS on 1440p or above displays.

Here are the full release notes.

Important Notes
  • This preview driver is intended to provide users an early first-look into upcoming features within AMD Software; feedback is encouraged and can be submitted through the AMD Bug Report Tool. If issues arise or persist during the usage of the Preview Driver, please use the AMD Auto-Detect and Install Tool to revert the latest recommended AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition driver.

New Feature Highlights
  • AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) Technical Preview - Boost FPS with frame generation technology for a smoother gaming experience.
  • AFMF adds frame generation technology to DirectX 11 and 12 games on AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series Desktop Graphics.
  • AFMF preserves image quality by dynamically disabling frame generation during fast motion.

What to know
  • AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF)
  • AFMF can be automatically enabled using HYPR-RX or toggled individually using the Global Graphics Settings page for these select titles;
  • A Plague Tale - Requiem
  • Borderlands 3
  • Control
  • Dead Space
  • Deep Rock Galactic
  • Dying Light 2
  • Far Cry 6
  • Ghostwire: Tokyo
  • Hitman 3
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Resident Evil 3
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Shadow Of The Tomb Raider
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
  • Starfield
  • The Last of Us Part 1
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  • In addition to these select titles, AFMF may be manually enabled for any title such as Cyberpunk 2077 using the per-app settings within AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
  • The AFMF technical preview currently requires the game to be played in fullscreen mode with HDR disabled and VSYNC disabled.
  • For the optimal experience, AFMF is recommended to be used on AMD FreeSync displays.
  • Users are recommended to disable HDR in Windows Display Settings, or disable HDR in the game (as well as Auto-HDR).
  • AFMF features an activity monitor similar to AMD Radeon Super Resolution to confirm the frame generation status using AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 's in-game overlay (use the default hotkey of Alt-R for the fullscreen overlay, or Alt-Z for the sidebar overlay)
  • AFMF can introduce additional latency in games and is recommended to be combined with AMD Radeon Anti-Lag/Anti-Lag+ for the optimal experience.
  • As AFMF may introduce additional latency in games, AFMF may not offer the optimal experience in fast-paced competitive titles.
  • AFMF is recommended to be enabled for games running at a minimum FPS of 55 FPS for 1080p displays, and 70 FPS for 1440p or above displays.

Known Issues
  • Intermittent driver crashes have been observed while AFMF is enabled and the game's resolution is changed or a task switch happens (such as alt-tab between different windows).
  • Brief corruption may be observed when switching between windows with AFMF enabled on some 144 Hz or greater monitors.
  • Brief stutter may be experienced after closing the Xbox Game Bar.
  • FreeSync displays may report an erratic FPS when AFMF is enabled.
  • Some metrics such as frame time may show inconsistent results when AFMF is enabled.

Radeon Product Compatibility
AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition Technical Preview Driver for AMD Fluid Motion Frames Version 23.30.01.02 is compatible with the following AMD Radeon products.
  • Radeon RX 7900/7800/7700/7600 Series Graphics

Is this just some basic video interpolation like the motion smoothing setting on a tv? Its happening at a driver level so its clearly not integrated into the game like FSR3 would be.

I mean it's an optional feature nobody is forced to use it and while I don't like it as much as I do frame generation I only have forespoken to test it in and first impressions aren't bad but it is hard to tell it is even on for better or worse I guess. With a base framerate around 100fps at 4k I didn't notice any artifacts either only ran around for 20-30m though.

The biggest problem with this and Frame gen is that you already need a somewhat high base framerate to get the most out of it I also can't use it with M/K only with controller otherwise the latency hit is too noticeable making it somewhat useless with the cards that might actually benefit the most from it like mid range stuff.

While it is optional for the user, marketing teams and companies are going to make it a mandatory part of their marketing slides, to convince everyone that the new cards are indeed much faster than the previous generation. Nvidia is doing it with RTX 4000 series, by limiting Frame Generation to that series ONLY.

AMD is making the driver-level FMF switch available for RDNA3 exclusively for now, through this preview driver. It is still evaluating making it available for RDNA's 1 and 2.

Very possible. However, if AMD ends up enabling it to RX5000 and RX6000-series cards so they too can use FMF on every DX11/12 game out there it would be a big hit on NVIDIA. So let's pray :respect:

I tried it, can't really tell when it's on if the framerate is already high, could only really see a tangible difference if I limit the fps to 60. No extra input lag that I can tell, some artifacts noticeable at lower framerates especially with the UI (like if you limit the game to 30fps but that's ridiculous anyway) however it's a lot less than I expected. It's subtle, obviously the game still runs at the same framerate, nice to have overall but nothing crazy.

I will 100% be able to tell a difference between 90 fps and 165 fps, unfortunately I don't own either of these two games to test that out.

Until the game comes out "optimized" for it meaning you'll need it for even the strongest cards to achieve target FPS.

You can still not use it and get 40fps native FTW so technically still optional

On the contrary: My TV's lowest FreeSync threshold is 48Hz so no, 40fps is technically not an option unleyy I want the TV stuttering and flashing.

AMD is making the driver-level FMF switch available for RDNA3 exclusively for now, through this preview driver. It is still evaluating making it available for RDNA's 1 and 2.
RSR has remained RDNA only, never passed to Vega or Polaris, while FSR was working on those two older architectures too. FMF being also a driver level feature will remain an RDNA3 exclusive feature the some way RSR remained an RDNA exclusive feature.
I will 100% be able to tell a difference between 90 fps and 165 fps, unfortunately I don't own either of these two games to test that out.
I think from first tests AMD's Frame Generation doesn't achieve the same level of increased framerate on 1% lows as Nvidia's Frame Generation, so while average framerate will be comparable to DLSS's, the feeling might not be the same, as having much more frames per second.
And as always some one will hack them and adding older cards.
Has anyone hacked RSR to work on Vega or Polaris?

On the contrary: My TV's lowest FreeSync threshold is 48Hz so no, 40fps is technically not an option unleyy I want the TV stuttering and flashing.
Depends. If the TV is 60Hz, yeah, bad luck. If the TV can go much higher, like 120Hz, it is probably FreeSync Premium, meaning for under 48Hz it supports low framerate compensation (LFC), so smooth framerates even at 40fps.

Well it's been about half a day but this was Friday of a long Weekend. This is the most feature laden driver that AMD has ever released. Many things are still the exact same but the granular display of the performance metrics is nice. The driver also seems to take over applying settings to ever Game. Maybe that is where the AI is being applied. It's not that I wasn't getting high frames before but it would seem that everything seems smoother. While playing Forspoken ( A lot of Cutscenes) everything is butter smooth and combat is not different than moving around in the world. I already like AMD but I really have to commend them on this driver update. Even the CPU runs a few degrees cooler now as well.

Ok I nstalled this new driver.
Checked this on Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 and Starfield.

MSI Overdive FPS counter shows no differance between AMD Fluid Motion Frames on and off.

AMD built in FPS counter show massive improvement.

Why MSI does not catch any differance?
