AMD RX 7000 series GPU Owners' Club

Hey guys, I'm back home, now totally into upgrading the RX 6900 XT in main rig to the RX 7900 XTX, adding two 2TB NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen4 x4 drives while I'm at it, also swapping out the RAM to a pair of 16GB 3600C16 RAM. Then, will proceed to assembling the 3900X + RX 6900 XT build, now, the question I have is, the SOLDAM case is in my storeroom, on the top shelf which is a good 8-9 feet high, how the heck am I gonna get it down? o_O It's a heavy SOB, how the heck did I get up there in the first place?!

A pic is worth a thousand words, the badboy's finally off and running in my main rig -

The Linkup riser cable is solid, SAM is enabled, card is doing PCIe x16 4.0 as it should.....

Not a bad price considering but thins are improving.

How are you enjoying it? It been a week so how whelmed are you?

Are there any known solutions to the VRAM problem? I read through, and does the driver rollback seem to work for most people?
Dual monitor, one is 165 hz QHD other is 60 hz FHD. Tried setting custom CRU profiles. Tried AMD custom display profiles, as well as switching out the cable from HDMI to displayport. Also tried lowering the refresh rates of both monitors; it goes down to 909 mhz when I set my QHD one to 75 hz

Still has some driver issues, AMD has a fair bit of work to do to get it where I'd say it's, if not perfect, great. I find myself having to disable Freesync on my monitor to play Dead Space without intermittent crash (driver timeout, driver failed to respond error message). With Freesync on, sometimes I can play DSR just fine, but sometimes, minutes or just a hour or two into the game, it'd freeze and I'd have to qyuckly hit the old Ctrl + Alt + Del combo to get out of it. Without Freesync enabled, I'm able to play for four solid hours without issue.

Ambient temp is about 24C, GPU temps are pretty decent at 60+ and 80+ (Junction temp), so no worries about heat. Oddly enough, temp's quite similar to my Nitro+ RX 6900 XT, with perhaps the Nitro+ hitting closer to 90C. Do note that I have adjusted the fan curve on my card to something more aggressive, with my rig on a pedestal on the floor and my soundbar blasting away (or, with my headphones on), fan noise isn't much of a concern for me.

What results have you guys got from overclocking ? I managed a roughly 10% OC on my reference 7900XT, from 2500-2550mhz in games to 2800-2850 and memory from 20 Gbps to 21, I wonder if there are better ways to achieve a higher OC than what I have done.

Hi Just did the Auto OC and this what I get

The auto OC thing only marginally gets me higher frequency compared to stock, manual overclock is still the way to go, it also doesn't OC the memory.

I have mine with a Water block so that could explain it. I also am not aware if HWinfo is actually accurate.

Finally got my reference card - but its freezing cold so have to wait to tomorrow to put it in

I must admit when I saw the inner brown packet I thought they had send me a laptop by mistake

Fitting it in to my Meshify C i going to take som modding to

BTW I am considering doing the thermalpad mod on the backplate of the 7900XTX reference card - on my 6900XT and with a fan on top it did give 3-7c lower temps
Termal pads on black plate on the reference card.jpg

Any one who has done it yet and kno the hights need of the thermalpads? I found a reddit post about putting thermalpads 2 layers of 3mm on the very core part as well - any experience with that?

The red markings is where I am considering to place thermal pads

Done that back when I had reference model, even posted on Reddit about it as well. Did 2x3mm on core but there was no change in temps, so I wouldnt bother but if you want you can try.

Aha that was proberly your post that I saw - I might do memory and som of the other parts but will test card for a couple of months first

Now installing the beast
6900XTv7900XTX.JPG

Due to the length increase I had to modify my setup in the Meshify C cabinet.

Thight fit.JPG

Now this might not look to chabby - but i dosent reveal
JankMod.JPG

That I had to move the fans to the front
300cmMAX.JPG

If next gen is above 300mm I will have to make a complete build remake in another case
Anti Sacking.JPG

But pretty nice for now
Jank MOD Front.JPG

And with some gafa tape the dust filter even made it back on - have made 10mm spaceing between it and the fans to give the some breathing room
Eyefinity.JPG

Going to do some testing and then later ad some thermal pads and a fan on top of the cards backplate.

So far idle temps with 3 monitors seems ok - below first my old 6900XT
PreTemp.png

With the same driver - the 7900XTX seems to have same temps in idle
7900XTX idle.png

But powerdraw is higher

Temps seems rather decent after an hour of gameing

Low reference card temps - I have done some testing and my reference card runs fine - but I am a bit supprised by the temps in a good way (I hope). After 3 hours of gameing I got these results:
Temps 3 hours test.jpg

cant help to think that Junktion temp at 72c and GPU temp at 59c is low playing at high resolution and settings. Its nice but seems low, I havent tried OCing the card yet. But one thing this game does not use a lot of vram will try some other games and see if memory usage makes a difference.

Mine was running practically the same, maybe a tad bit higher hotspot temp like 1 or 2 degrees. But when I tried to OC it rasiing the power limit by 10% raised the temps to 90-95 degrees while raising it by 15% would send it to over 100. Don't know if that is normal or I've Had a not worst but not best batch.

Overall when running at stock it was pretty good card, but coil whine was killing me.

With all my fans in the setup Im proberly not going to notice coil whine to be honest

A higher memory load does not appear to increase temps
HighMemLoad.jpg

Anyone getting crashes when running Witcher 3 with Next Gen update and Ray tracing?
Thought that it was my OC but returned to default settings and it still crashes. Randomly but pretty consistent.

What's your maximum VRAM temperature in games? Adrenalin doesn't show it, but HWinfo does.

Did a 2 hours run - HWInfo did show a bit higher temps:

Im strongly considering upgrading from my 6900 XT that is waterblocked with 3840x1600 display to upgrade to a liquid devil 7900 XTX i am only wondering if powercolor has extended warranty options but especially wonder if they void warranty when overclocking within normal limits altho you cant use mpt anyway.

They cant prove you have OCed your card even with MPT as long as you don't edit the bios so they Cannot void warranty.

That's not what i am asking tho, its more about can i trust powercolor to respect warranty even if i am being honest with them.
Anyway might buy liquid devil 7900 XTX next week

Rainbow Six Extraction uses waaay less power in 4K when capped at 60 fps. The average consumption for the reference 7900XTX was 175 W lower during a maxed out benchmark (no AA). That's whopping 50% savings. The fan didn't even go over 1000 rpm, as the temps were 12 and 20 C lower:

BTW, today I saw the Biostar 7900XTX MBA selling locally for the equivalent of $870 w/o tax
