Anyway, I wonder what the point is with buying this instead of a system with a soldered APU, especially when mini-ITX boards are so expensive.
Building a bigger system with an ATX board seems unlikely as well.
There are several use cases here. For example you wanted to build a new machine but wanted to buy the graphics card later so you bought this so you could have adequate gaming performance in lower end stuff until you bought a card.

The question I have is how do we know how those perform if there is no HDMI or DP port on the MB used. Unless they were using USB C there is no way to test the APU by itself using that MB. There is also the fact that the Ace is one of the most expensive AM5 boards period. I hope TPU uses B650 and A620 boards when they get these for testing.

The Ace has DP over USB-C.
Afaik, AM5 has HDMI and DP capabilities onboard by itself but it's up to the motherboard manufacturers to implement the outputs. As every processor bar the 7500F has a basic as it may be iGPU, at least one video out is expected.

Oh zip it, you know when AMD first used the term APU? And why Intel doesn't use it? It's a marketing term, even if its utility has changed slightly over the years!
please show us what piece of silicone on the 7950x has both a CPU core and GPU core on it......

Your total lack of knowledge is showing, please show us what piece of silicone on the 7950x has both a CPU core and GPU core on it......
So the 7950X has no video support? Even the 7950X3D has GPU cores. These are going to be APUs for AM5. If you didn't know the 5600G (AM4 APU) does support Freesync with it's Vega cores.

the graphics cores on the 7000 series are not on the same silicone as the cpu cores.....thats the difference with the APU chips

You mean Silicon or Silicone?

And yes it's still an APU

No the term APU used to refer to "CPU" with an IGP, before that they were usually on the motherboard. In case you missed it the CCD's (chiplet) also don't have a memory controller, I guess they're not CPU's then?

No they have only ever called the chips with the graphics and CPU on the same piece of silicone APU's, nowhere in any AMD documents is a Desktop Multi chip package referred to as an APU.

all are single pieces of silicone going back to am1 apart from 2 laptop chips 7945HX and 7845HX. no desktop mcm chips are called an apu.
What is an APU to you? To me it is a chip that has GPU cores period. What you are talking about was only true for AM4. I am not sure but I could swear there is a 16 core APU on laptop currently that is MCM that you just referenced (7945HX :) :) . Of course you can't be serious in thinking that those cannot come to the desktop with better cooling potential and more power and be called APUs but if you want to argue the scientific definition of an APU be my guest. All I know is that my 7900X3D shows its own GPU in HWinfo but I have been drinking so.

AMD's definition of an APU is a CPU with an iGPU capable of (albeit light) gaming on its own, without the need for a dGPU. The iGPU on the 7000-series CPUs isn't capable of that.

Of course, it is only 2 GPU cores but would a 3400G blow it away?

Maybe AMD just can't make their mind up..
We actually don't think of the Ryzen 7000 Series as an APU. It's a processor that has graphics, and I know that's a subtle difference.

To us, when we say "APU," it really means the product has powerful graphics, is capable of playing a game, has all the bells and whistles for video encode, display, drivers, etc.

Llano is over a decade old now so stop using it as a reference, things change. AMD did try to highlight its IGP performance at the time, something I never saw them do with Raphael. AMD simply pointed out the 2CU IGP's existence, which isn't the same.
Of course, it is only 2 GPU cores but would a 3400G blow it away?
That's apples to oranges, or rather apples to old apples. By that reasoning you can't call a Phenom II X4 920 a quad core anymore because there are dual cores that beats it today.
