AMD Software Adrenalin 23.9.3 WHQL Released

Decided to download CS 2 so going to install this driver and check it out.

This driver supports this game but AMD original release note didn't show it but has been updated now.

New Game Support
  • Counter Strike 2
  • Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
  • PAYDAY 3

However issue still persists in Chrome, specifically YouTube playback or when hovering over UI elements
I have RTX2080 super in a laptop and get exactly same white flashes in Chromium based browser (Edge)

And just what did they need to do for this
  • Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
cp2077 runs fine with any recent driver from AMD what's so special about PL that needed a driver update

Pretty sure it's just expected at this point - CDPR is (smartly) treating the 2.0 patch / Phantom Liberty like a full relaunch for Cyberpunk. Your average "gamer on the street" thinks they need a new driver / feels like AMD should be putting some effort in to making sure things run smoothly... So AMD puts a driver out. That's probably most of it.

Another group of people benefit more, though, and are possibly kept out of AMD's proverbial hair by this move - those who rarely update drivers or are hesitant to do so. Many, I suspect, are going to give far less push-back when asked to update if the driver mentions the game they're having issues with by name.

And then of course there's the non conspiracy theorist option! AMD may have made one or more changes behind the scenes to improve performance and/or stability of the game post patch and we'll never know because it's working as intended and we got the new driver. Iceburgs passing unseen in the night.

I mean, we shouldn't have to choose the factory reset option in the installer, either. Apparently I'm spoiled by using Nvidia cards almost exclusively for the last few years (though thinking back I never had issues like this with older ATI/AMD cards either) but I can't remember the last time I had to do anything but run the installer and click next for a GPU driver update. The fact that AMD can't seem to get this right in 2023 is pathetic. I had to reinstall Windows two days ago to get the latest driver working with the 7900 XTX... And it was a fresh install from after I switched to that card that I was replacing. A fresh install that only had some games and the AMD GPU and chipset drivers installed. Makes no sense.
Nvidia is just as bad if you keep piling driver stacks on top of each other, if it was just amd then DDU wouldn't exist.

I think this is the answer. I downloaded the 23.9.3 offline installer, disconnected my internet, and ran the AMD Cleanup Utility last night in safe mode. All uninstalls reported successful. Rebooted and re-installed 23.9.3 from the local package and the install went flawlessly. Using default settings with no tweaks whatsoever, I was still getting white flashes in Chrome and Edge but not Firefox, at least during the hour I tested it out. I agree this could potentially only be an issue with Chromium based browsers. Looks like I'll be switching over to FF for the time being, maybe permanently. I've been a Chrome user for about as long as I can remember but I'm in no way married to it, I've heard very good things about FF and Opera but am definitely out of the loop concerning the browser space, suggestions?

White flashes aside, I have not had any issues with 23.9.3 on my 6950XT. After confirming the flashing issue was still present in Chrome/Edge at stock I decided to rebuild my daily driver settings as well as overclocking and underclocking+undervolting profiles and again they all work just fine in the games I regularly play.

Been having problems with this driver version as well on RDNA2. The same white flashes on chromium instances and random driver timeouts.

Man, AMD has the ATi divsion working overtime on these things. This is the third driver set that I'll be installing in the past month!

Hilarious. The one time I did not use DDU to uninstall drivers in safe mode and let AMD do it's own "clean install" I had no end of troubles and had to use DDU to fix the fluster cluck. ZERO problems ever using DDU and will never use AMD's own driver package to do a clean install.

Was this the AMD Cleanup Utility or the Clean Install in the driver?

Agreed. I even use DDU for updates. Now, I've never had a serious problem with my Radeon cards over the years but I've had exclusively Radeons since 2008. There were no issues switching back then because the drivers weren't nearly as complex as they are now. Since running DDU is such a simple matter, I just do it all the time to be 100% safe.

Clean install in the driver.
Not gonna lie, I had that happen to me too. I found the AMD Cleanup Utility to be alright. I had numerous issues with recent drivers until I used ACU and things have been going great ever since.

I'm thinkin I might give them a try sometime today

It do not support RX580. Just tried and it's not supported.
But the 480 is on the list. What's going on?
Did they forgot about it?

This was a beta driver last week and checking the release notes looks the same.

That in bold hasn't changed.

And since I don't have those 2 games I will wait and see on this one before installing.

23.9.2 has been solid so far I know a few people on RDNA 2 have had issues with that driver so will be keeping eye out for reports on this driver with RDNA 2.
I noticed this yesterday but didn't have time to post, but AMD has passed both now. It was stealthily updated.

Is version 23.20.11.07 a beta?
AMD hasn't released a new game ready driver for AC Mirage.

AMD needs to hurry. Game ready drivers for AC Mirage and Diablo IV, maybe?
Diablo 4 is very low stress and has no AMD specific issues so far as I know... No real need for a driver there.

The issues would appear once game reviews begin to be published, in which the nvidia cards are quite a bit faster.
All framerate/frame times optimisations are good, even if those be only few percents...
