Also in test, overclocked 1080 with Accelero Xtreme IV (TLR: higher clocks, higher OC, lot better temperatures, GTX 1080 without custom cooling is hindered by it's weak cooler and also OC by it's bios max. 110% power limit).

980 Ti users can easily skip this card. GTX 1070 will be only at a tad higher level than 980, so nowhere near the speed of 980 Ti or Titan X. Nvidia PR bullshit, is bullshit.

That's rather cherrypicking benchmarks, a custom 980 Ti vs. regular 1080 is more realistic. More users use custom 980 Ti/OC 980 Ti. So no, I'll go with my benchmarks.

Now the only useful comparison is actually custom 980Ti because it's the vast majority of the market. Ref card were cut from production once custom ones became available, according to NV afterall.

No it's not? "Fair" isn't important here (this has nothing to do with sports of some kind). Logically what's interesting is, what you use vs. what is new, means, not a reference 980 Ti, rather a custom 980 Ti. It's called being "practical". That's the whole reason PCGHs reviews make more sense than others who do ref vs ref, and the whole reason why they're doing it. Btw. a overclocked benchmark GTX 1080 (yes, OC) vs GTX Titan X (1500 MHz OC) is included, so everyone gets what he wants.

TL : DR the GTX 1080 still isn't worth it, even with custom cooling + OC (for users who own custom GTX 980 Ti/Titan X or are able to overclock).

fair enough. I'm partial to the method used here for the reasons mentioned (I'm more interested in what the 1080 ASIC is capable of), but you argue your point well and I can't disagree after mulling it over. I guess it's fortunate we have both to look at, isn't the internet grand?

Well, atm I'm more interested in the new Radeons and upcoming Vega, more into Polaris10 right now, because I look to replace my GTX 780 Ti, because Nvidia seems to stop supporting Kepler properly: http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Doom-2016-Spiel-56369/Specials/Benchmark-Test-1195242/
Also a tad more speed (maybe ~980ish or Fury-ish speeds) is welcome, and I don't mind the power consumption decrease at all. So my big hopes for now are, that R9 480X is a good performer and not too expensive (I'd like to spent 300 or 350 tops).

It is likely that that "CF" C7 chip in the leaked benchmarks (which was slightly slower than 1080) is the RX 480.
So:
R9 480 - normal
RX 480 - dual GPU

D3D12/Vulkan doesn't use Crossfire/SLI. The games address the cards directly:

3DMark 11 runs on D3D11 so Crossfire was used in the benchmark (it was the only choice).

You simply expected too much. This is a small GPU, that was known before, to expect 2560 shaders was simply too much, 2048 or 2304 was more realistic the whole time. Also it's not supposed to catch up to a 400$ card, AMD wants the performance segment not the (Semi-)Highend. The GPU is what I expected and it is good - great price to performance. They can conquer the highend segment another time.

Given the recent announcement of the new Intel Broadwell-E line up I am utterly underwhelmed. I wish there was concrete info on Zen, release date, performance leaks (good ones, not crap). I've been waiting to upgrade my PC for some while but for my purposes (gaming) I'm so close to going with Skylake but given Kaby Lake will be out later this year(?) and so should Zen, I'm maybe going to wait it out. Been on Sandy-E since Nov 2011 and the upgrade itch hasn't been relieved by Intel's offerings.

Would love some Zen news.

Broadwell-E is useless - they should've skipped it and released Skylake-E instead. The IPC improvement on Broadwell-E is too slim, only the new 10 core processor is meaningful but way too expensive.
I hope Zen will bring Octa cores with good IPC at least at Haswell levels. That would be nice and a true advancement. In the meantime I'll probably jump to a 3930K, it's a cheap buy now (~130-150 bucks here). That will do for years again.
