Some interesting video demonstrate driver efficiency in DX11 when CPU become bottleneck due to low setting + low resolution.

GTA V 390 vs 770 driver overhead test

GTA V 390 vs 770 CPU overhead test

BF4 390 DX11 vs 390 Mantle vs 770 DX11 driver overhead test

Nvidia solve this problem since 337.50 driver while AMD develop mantle instead and that force MS to release DX12.

Soooo why compare two completely different cards in terms of performance and generations? Pretty sure there is a good sized gap between the two.

Exactly what I was thinking. The 970 should be the Nvidia card to compare with a 390.

LOL.... Apples to cheese comparison o.0

Does this mean my GTX 670 will beat a R9 290?

I'm confused because the GTX 770 certainly is doing better in certain scenario's vs the 390X which is an odd state of affairs, also is the 770 2GB or 4GB?

:) I did not Realize it was AMD that forced Microsoft to develop windows 10 and DX12
:) You learn Something new each Day :)

Oops maybe the OP does not Realize this is UnDiluted Sarcasm :)

Whilst i'm sure AMD played a part in getting MS to haul butt and make a lower overhead API... yeah.

When I was using gtx 660 2gb , was getting fixed 60 fps with i5 4460. On same settings with R9 280 I am getting 43-60 fps. At same location nvidia gets 60 fps , amd gets 43 fps because of cpu overhead.

I hate to come off as an asshole, but I"m still going to do it.

- This is old news
- It's youtube, by definition unreliable junk
- This is really, really old news
- We don't care
- DX12 around the corner
- GPU comparison is apples to raccoons
- If you still run a GTX 770, I don't take you seriously and driver overhead is the least of your issues for good gaming
- Go away thanks.

I think they are testing the driver overhead, not the GPU.

They could be using a weaker nvidia card to show just how much driver overhead matters. The 390 should be beating the gtx 770, but it's not in the second and third video. The fact that they are not using a same performing card from both manufacturers does not invalidate the videos.

If those tests are legit, then what I take from this is that AMD's driver needs more CPU cycles to display the same graphics compared to nvidia.

I'm interested in this topic. If you have information that disproves or clarifies the claims in the linked videos, please share it.

If we are going to play that game, lets play the who cares game. If I wanted to play at 640x480 with everything turned off I would go pull my netbook out of the closet. Driver overhead at ultra low settings? Is this really a topic of debate? WHO CARES IF THE TOP END IS THE SAME?

It could be very real, my 670 put's out higher numbers than a lot of higher end AMD GCN GPU's on max settings... apart from single player where graphics are ramped up vs multi player (BF4 scales back graphics in multiplayer), you will notice larger FPS drops, but overall much higher averages. You might take my info with a grain if salt though since i have nothing from AMD to compare with apart from an AMD Phenom II.

Raccoons love apples. To be fair raccoons love everything.

They DO, including trash. Q: How do you really piss a raccoon off?

A: Wait till one gets in your trash bin. Slam the lid closed, beat on the side of the bin with a board. Then run like hell and hopefully make it into the house before the crazed whirlwind of gnashing teeth (think Tasmanian Devil cartoon and you are close) escapes from your trash.:laugh: -TRUE STORY!

It's possible it may have helped with the development of some features. I think that's as far as it goes though.
