AMD's Bulldozer breaks CPU Frequency world record!!

Since I have been here this site was never a source of anything extreme (again, not a bad thing, just not what it does).

My homes are XS, Kingpin, and of course OCF. We are geared a bit differently... :pimp:

Sure, but still a minority, and a shrinking one at that.

Kingpin told me $450 for a pot, when I was on the same team as him. I thought about it for a few months, then heard he sold one to dude for $125. I left the extreme scene behind. It's a tough crowd to break into.

And yeah, not too extreme in these parts of the interweb.

AMD has a new record, and that's cool. I only question who is really gonna care?

"Yes, we set a record with chips noone but a select few have access too, and none can buy."

Should have been:

"Yes, you can go and pick these CPUs at your local retailer TODAY!!"

AMD's marketing team plain out sucks balls, and every time it just gets worse and worse...Yeah, people like to be teased, AMD, good job.

Retards. Premature ejaculation much?

Yeah, times they are a changing in that scene... Im afraid Rev4 at the bot has taken the wind out of its sails among other issues. Oh well, I digress.

That record has stood since the P4 days, so its a big day to me, and those in the know I suppose, otherwise, I surely understand the sentiment of the non extreme 24/7 overclocking crowd. All I can say to them, without getting in trouble, is to hang in there.

LOL ! You are so very RIGHT ! :respect:
They give us a bunch of BS get every one all pumped up but what they fail to think about is who really gives a crap about how well the chip over clocks . WE all want to know how it stacks up CLOCK for CLOCK against you nemesis Intel's offering !
They didn't get there dick out of there pants and it is OVER !

Since P4 days? What about CedarMill, and last month?
CM is a P4...no? Yeees. :p

And people have been using those same chips FROM THE P4 days to pound on 8Ghz lately... hence my statement. Sorry that I was vague. Bottom line is no newer chip, until now has come close (except maybe a rare Gulfy?).

It's no longer P4 DAYS ;)

Anyway, enough Intel stuff; they are not important right now.

:toast:

Now, of course, I want to know about power consumption. Like, I know Thuban can handle the wattage quite well, my chips have seen near 2.0v, no problem. But boy did they suck up the power when doing so.

It's very nice to see that the "TDP limit" rumoured for the server chips isn't present in the FX...or at least...these FX chips usaed at the demo. I have been largely ignoring Bulldozer and frequency becuase of that tech in the server chips. I wonder if AMD wil leven give access to the software that makes such things possible...?

i may be wrong but wasnt sandy bridge supposed to do 5GHz on air as well?

It is definitely a marketing move since this was achieved apparently (if I understood correctly) on 31st of August. Now AMD hasn't come up with anything as a countermeasure to all the bad rap and "benchmarks" leaked that hint to some average performing BD, plus the low prices compared to SB which might lead to assuming they will perform in that price range. So they thought now's the time for a bang and voila: 8+ GHz! As if somebody in the real world cares.

Some chips can. Depends on the cooler and chip (voltage needed to get there). Both my 2600k and 2500k will do it on air... Granted temps creep into the 80's during stress testing but... They do that, though not the norm. On custom water (not cheapo sealed kits) its more common.

I think some can, but as Cadaveca said, "enough with the Intel stuff".

The problem is Intel is all we have to go by right now . How many of the BD chips are in the hands of people right now ? How many are being tested and BM by regular every day users ? I think it is relevant to talk about Intel Chips when all we have is BD fluff right now . ;)

Several THOUSAND. And no, I shit you not.

Ok so where are all the BM ? Where are the tests ? If this is true I want more than fluff I need to see them in action NOW !

Everytime I see BM I think Bowel Movement. GAH!

NDA = Non Disclosure Agreement. Though some part of it was lifted today, all of it was not.

So much mystery ...

:wtf::shadedshu

I'm sorry dude, really. I couldn't resist.

Anyway, cool beans AMD, but I still don't have any CHIPS!!! Boards waiting, like a jilted lover at the altar.

Anyway, have fun boys, I'm off to play with some APUs. You can buy them now.;)
