My father uses this specific port for his Behringer audio interface, i knew it was useful for something, now you confirm it, great!

If it's quad channel then it'll get at least 64GB RAM, alternatively the upper limit might be 128 or even 256 GB depending on the various types (ECC?) of DRAM the platform will support.

Well if the rumored quad channel memory isn't inaccurate then there's absolutely zero need for mem speeds above 3000 MHz since "mission critical" systems don't need a pissing contest, aka benchmarks, just to see which of them have the fastest memory.

You know, with 16 "cores", maybe an AM4
chip of the A12 variety? You think 8 "cores"
and another 8 dedicated to graphics might work???

Not exactly a trivial possibility eh?

Edit: So having had a better look, it looks like a rough draft of an Asus board, as it has a TPU, EPU, Aura and LanGuard, all Asus proprietary things.

I also don't understand why a new board like this would be equipped with FireWire, does anyone still use that? Note that a lot of things are seemingly just suggestions of what could go in the slots and the x8 slots are shared with the x16 slots.

Wow so this means the X399 is going to be a 2 socket system! It means 32 cores 64 threads at least...I want one :D! ALso there is going to be a separate X390 chipset for the desktop line with double the DIMMs, I guess this is why we only have a Crosshair VI Hero only and no Formula or Extreme yet...makes sense now!

Yep, I still use firewire for my m-audio firewire 410.
 
Is it just me, or is anyone else thinking the X390 chipset ought to work with the AM4 processors as well? It still only has a x4 interface to the CPU if the information in the diagram is correct, which suggests that it's not limited to whatever the final socket will be that these processors will use.

Since it seems that AMD uses PCIe 3.0 x4 link to whatever, be it chipset, or M.2 or whatever, I'm kind of waiting for a board with no chipset. :p

But yeah, could be anything they wanted. I thought that was the point of having ASMedia make the chipsets... vendors can choose whatever they like.

That's not going to be a thing since the pciex lanes come from the CPU the chipset means little to the platform on the whole and the designation of x399 mearly states that this chipset has the chops and IP to talk to two processors on one socket unlike earlier chipsets for RyZen.
As Cadeveca says the chipset can be anything now since the Soc has most things covered.
All in the x399 chipset would not benefit an r7 system in any way.
AMDs platform is very modular by all accounts I can't see any reason why you couldn't have two chipsets or more attached to one processor but no one needs that obviously.

I said X390, not X399. There are two new chipsets, the X399 would obviously not be suitable if you look at the diagrams I linked to.

What i said still applies to either but fine I'll restate a bit different since i didn't note that detail.
The Soc that is RyZen puts out its own memory channels/capacity and pciex lanes and capacity, the south bridge/chipset does little to nothing of much benefit and is irrelevant in any case since whatever you have could be paired with whatever.
Neither the x390 or 399 would change the pciex and memory channels available to an r7 or lower chip so that's why I'm saying it's irrelevant any should attach to any but your only going to get more or less of each legacy port within a pciex3 x4 bandwidth budget that doesn't change, but could at the cost of user pciex lanes, a no go ish except possibly for specials like itx with multiple nvme slots for example.
. Looking at that pic is interesting though ,quad memory channels enabled by socket Am44 nice , given we know RyZen likes memory bandwidth that looks like a proper enthusiasts version of RyZen while the dual socket pic looks to be the server board layout to me.

I must not have woken up fully Mr swede I scarcely took in what i was seeing before thanks for the nudge.

I'm sold on socket 44 in that AMD said it(RyZen there start point being mainstream r7) could scale up and down a product stack and that would enable a hedt platform that can use lower binned Naples chips , i don't think they are the same socket though given the rumours, i think socket 44 is pin gate array while the server will be LGA, again smart in that it separates server and consumer parts allowing for appropriate pricing and Bom's.

yeah, but it can't game ... 7700k will be better than it in 1080p ... although AMD has clearly communicated that this should be benchmark-ed in 8K.

The irony is that AMD's design is more forward-looking than Intel's; that AMD's design is for future consoles and VR devices and servers, and not really the desktop space. What we have now is a pre-development platform for future software. That's what AMD is, an IP company, using an asset-light model to meet the needs of future devices for their partners, and Intel is a behemoth bent on making profits for the least investment, and huge overhead.

So their products are different. What's the big deal? They SHOULD be different. The irony is in people missing this fact.

Just about every modern PCH-like chipset uses something along the lines of a 4 lane PCI-e link for communication with the CPU. AMD tends to just call it out for what it is nowadays. DMI on Intel CPUs is just a glorified PCIe 4x interface as well.

Good video. Maybe those 4+GHz RAM modules will come in more offers from now, and also cheaper. And hopefully the mobos too, since right now ALL motherboards for AMD are pure CRAP and junk.

What are you talking about m8? it seems you did 0 research lol the current platform supports 32GB ram and the 16core 32thread platform will support quadchannel memory so we are talking about more than 128GB.... gets your facts straight
