Antivirus for Server x64 2008

I am running server 2008 with Symantec Endpoint 11. I need an antivirus that is not going to cost an arm and a lag ($500 per year) and that is compatible with x64 server editions.

Please don't recommend Linux, or "common sense".

Thank you. :toast:

Server Specs:

AMD X630 @ 3.6Ghz
6Gb DDR2 @ 900Mhz
2900 Pro
2 500Gb HD's RAID 0
Server 2008 x64 Standard SP2

(The problem with endpoint is that it does not have pro-active scanning available for Server or x64 bit OS's.)

AVG has a "file server" version that only costs $99 a year. http://www.avg.com/us-en/avg-file-server-edition

I'm not sure how they manage the connections as $99 is for only 5 connections, but I always get the $99 version and never had an problems even with 10+ computers connecting to the server.

It definitely is. It is basically the same as their desktop AV, which is pretty good. I wish their free version worked on Servers...

yea my server would run at crawl when using Sysmantec. Now it seems pretty usable, I have all desktop effects on, including areo and my server can handle everything with only 4 Gb of ram.

I mostly satisfied with price, Ive converted my server to a gaming desktop for now, but once I receive my parts it will go back to being a DHCP/Back up media server, once I get this:

http://ncix.com/products/?sku=29571&vpn=CTSK01&manufacture=CRUCIAL TECHNOLOGY

I am going to mirror my raid 0 set up on to the 3rd drive, I am just not sure what set-up to use possibly RAID 5.

I'm doing the same thing with Server 2008 R2, with Aero on it runs pretty well with only 2GB of RAM and a Celeron. I even had to force Aero to enable because it wasn't supported on my graphics card.

I find this little instrument very useful for home security purposes.

It has good firewall and Antivirus software protection. All you need to do is to put this little guy between your modem and router and you are good to go.

There is no slowness and its been working awesome for more than a year.

And it only costs $20 at Frys (used to be $80 at Frys and egg).

And I think 2k8 also comes with Windows Defender right? I think there are some free ones from M$, so check their site.

I was wondering how that thing managed to do anti-virus without having access to any of the computers, then I read that it really just installs a version of Mcafee that is still installed on the machine...no thanks. The rest of the features are just a hardware firewall, it doesn't provide anything over my current WRT54G w/ Tomato installed.

LOL no Tomato for me, allergic to it. kidding.

Thanks. I knew there is something out there but too lazy to search. My 4 yr old Dell D610 with W7 doesn't support aero and didn't even install the video drivers even in XP mode (I guess the processor doesn't support virtual mode?)

So first of all i need to install the video drivers :D

Yep, the card still has to be capable of hardware acceleration, so drivers are a must. I think the trick will still work without drivers installed, but don't do it...
