Hey, I want to update my system by a small step, meaning that I need a CPU & a Mainboard which allow me to stick to my DDR1 modules (2x512MB MDT) and my AGP VGA (X800 GTO).

I thought of an Athlon64 4000+ SanDiego (2.4GHz/1MB 2ndLC) and an ECS nForce3 939.
That´s 85.00 + 35.00 = 120 Euros plus HSF.

Any better ideas regarding a cheap solution? :)

i wouldnt get an ECS if you plan to OC look up the machspeed/jetway GT4-SLI its a good cheap oc'ing mobo (machspeed=jetway+lifetime war)

tbh id go with a am2 dual core and get a board that supports ddr1 and ddr2 and agp+pcie for future upgradability, lower end x2 am2 chip (4000+) is gonna cost you as much as that 4000+ but you will have the option to further upgrade your cpu and memory at a later date, which you wont with a 939 (ok ok you can get upto a x2 4800+ or amd fx57 but thast the highest you will be able to go with that board) as there not making chips for them any more or do what ive done and sell any bits n pieces you have lying about to go towards a new build.

although not too sure there are any am2 boards that support ddr1

jetway GT4-SLI
you see... it´s a PCI-E board.
I need one with AGP port. :)

Isn´t that the one with that ULi chipset...?
Mh.. is that trustable (especially compared to an nForce3 based ECS) ?

Just found another one: MSI K8T Neo2-F (VIA K8T800)
http://www.kmelektronik.de/main_sit...=shop&ArtNr=127925&Ref=107&gp=12771&fd=348738

So it´s ECS nForce3 vs. Asrock ULi vs. MSI VIA K8T800 now.

Btw: I don´t think there are any AM2 boards with DDR1 support.

the board i posted has a slot where you fit a special card, so you can upgrade to am2 and ddr2 at the same time, altoguht you can't use the ddr1 http://www.asrock.com/product/AM2CPU Board.htmand am2 at the same time ;) :

go socket 754, it is both DDR1 AND AGP compatible!! and they are still pretty fast compared to 939.....

Nah, I won´t update that system for another time, instead I´ll sell it all on ebay about summer 2007 and than change completely to 775 Core2 / PCI-E / DDR2.

But anyway, do you think it´s technically better than the other two mobos?

nvm then.....

lol second time you tried telling someone to upgrade to 754, i mean i know you prolly love your system as i do mine and will defend it to the death :rockout: lol but 939 over 754 ? no contest at all 939 ftw 754 is practically dead whats the highest 754 cpu anywazy ? a athlon64 3200+/3400+ compared to a 939 single core 4000+ or x2 4800+ hmmmmmmm 754 sounds pretty fast to me over 939 :shadedshu

 (current system is socket A Athlon XP 3200+ btw.)

k sell your athlon xp and mobo and get a half decent 939 mobo and cpu shouldnt cost you much if you offset the price you get for your other parts.

mobile A64 4000+ plus the the A64 3700+ and turion mobile dual core are the best you can get for s754 so dont talk if you odnt know

get a half decent 939 mobo
Let´s say I´d like to get one of the best ever 939 or 754 mobos with agp. :)
Any more suggestions?

ok and how much are they gonna cost you over the equivalent 939 chip (a lot more :) ) if you can even find those chips i for one cant find any and dont recall seeing many in the uk? 754 is dead fact and performance wise cant keep up with 939, ok so i dont know the best chip for 754, but of all those listed you can still upgrade further with 939, which would you choose ? 754 or 939, my point wasnt what chips 754 have tbh i couldnt give a hoot about 754 but the fact someone is being told to upgrade to 754 over 939 which makes NO SENSE so dont pick me up on crap look at my whole post b4 hand

EDIT: oh btw just noticed ur system is also 754... touchy :)

Is there any site on the web like gpu-review.com but here for motherboards, so one can compare two boards on one sheet for memory performance etc.?

what boards are you thinkign of ? link...

Ah! Cool, forgot about DFI ;)

Damn... found no store link for that in Germany.

SOCKET 754
SOCKET 939

so that is $105 for the socket 754 and $116 for the socket 939 prices appear pretty damn close and both have 90nm CPU's hmmm. this is food for thought
