I'm going to upgrade my computer and was wondering what you guys thought about this setup. I'm after bang for the buck and will be recycling my Antec case, eVGA 6600GT 128mg AGP and my 1GB Corsair Value RAM DDR400 (I think that's the RAM heh). My current setup is an ASUS Mobo with a Sempron 2800+, cheap Antec 300w PS and an 80gb Maxtor ATA133 drive. I will more than likely overclock the Athlon64 3000+ chip a little bit, but nothing crazy. I would like to keep this setup for the next 18 months or so, but see myself getting a new video card in the next 6-9 months. Here goes:

I don't know coolmax and I wouldn't use any manufacturers outside Antec, Tagan, Enermax, Seasonic etc....I would in your case go for a 420W Tagan - they are quiet and good quality as well as reasonably priced. This will power a 7800 or other graphics card in the future as well so it will save you doing stuff twice. I have the Enermax Noisetaker 485W which is an excellent PSU, however if I go 7800GTX SLI I would be tempted to even upgrade that as I have 4x HD's, 2 opticals, 5 case fans and OC a little bit as well. Its better to be safe than sorry...:)

Hey.
I just have a word of advice for the PSU. Don't go cheap on a PSU since it is a very important piece of equipment. Buy a bad one and it can fry your entire computer. I would suggest going with Antec or OCZ, but beware that they are more expensive.
As for the motherboards go to www.pricewatch.com.
I just made myself and entirely new computer as you can see in my footer for around $900.
I got an Athlon64 3200+ and an MSI nForce mobo for $210.
This pinset is also 939, the newer and better pin set.
So I would also suggest looking at that as well since it is only about 20 dollars more than what you are looking at.
Also, watch out for store specials like circuit city and compusa.
I got a 160 GB HD for $40.
So look around a little more and dont just settle.
I know newegg is a great place to buy from, but some of their prices (such as CPUs, mobos and HDs) are a little high.
 
I bought a 9800pro from Rosewill about a year ago. I returned it three times for the same problem (GPU fan stopped working after about 2 weeks). I finally requested a refund the third time I sent it back. In addition to my experience I've heard quite a few other complaints about them. However, my Rosewill DVD burner is great. Maybe I just had bad luck with their video cards, but I would try something else. It does look like a tempting PSU though........

For minor parts of a computer like a DVD ROM, CD Burner you could chose not well known name brands.
But for parts like CPU, GPU and even PSU you want to stick with well named brands.
Esp. for the PSU dont go cheap bc a cheap PSU could fry your entire computer.
I see sooo many people having problems on these forums and most of the time its bc they have a crappy power supply.
If you want a good power supply without any problems you are prob. wind up spending around $70 at least.
Trust me I hate spending money on this as well, but I know it can be trusted.
After researching for hours I was split between the Antec TruePower or the OCZ PowerStream.
I spent the extra bucks on the PowerStream, bc it was a better brand, PSU and it came with a 5 year warranty.
So I suggest go for quality on a PSU bc you wont regret it.
