Apple Begrudgingly Agrees to Comply with EU USB-C Charging Mandate

"begrudgingly"

English... how not to like ?

On the topic... what's the point of forcing the use of type C connector and how does it improve our life?
It's a perfectly commonly used word in the English language.

@Vayra86 the issue with Android is the fragmentation. If you use a phone where the manufacturer hasn't messed around with the OS too much, or a Pixel phone, you do in general have a better experience, based on the multiple Android devices I've owned over the years.
I've had some really horrible devices and some that have hardly missed a beat. However, the user experience varies too much, which imho is a big problem for the Android ecosystem.

I simply don't get along with Apple's OS, I find it impossible to find what should be simple settings (Android is hiding more and more too) and the fact that everything ends up on the home screens irks me.

Yeah I know, I've owned an Optimus 2X, a Nexus 5, and a few others. Tried Windows Phone when it was a thing, too (and apart from the lackluster specs & app store, it was an absolute joy to use). And now I've been on Iphones bc work demands one (though since recently also allow Android phones)... I don't ask much of a phone though, and honestly don't understand a single thing of why people spend big on one. They all do the exact same stuff, really, with minor differences, most of which is camera quality. Gotta say my experience on Iphones has been the best of them all, as in, no hassle. Also the quality of their technology for moving to a new device is pretty awesome. I know Android has it too, but this one really gets everything. Apple's still doing a great job at hiding all the stuff the software does and just delivering the stuff you really want.

That's where the difference is I think; Android still offers more transparency and customizability, but also suffers from it because manufacturers approach it so differently, killing consistency. Between Sony, LG, Xiaomi and Motorola phones that I've seen and owned... there is so. much. bloat. all over the place and its like they make an effort to surprise you even though you've never asked for it.

Android is trash now too. It's worlds better for productivity than iOS. However as you said, it's becoming more and more locked down. Cannot even unlock the bootloader on my phone, which is beyond ridiculous in my mind.

Jailbroken iOS is 99% as functional as Android though.

At this point, there isn't a single phone OS I like anymore. So I'm likely just to go where the hardware is, that is undisputedly Apple. Has been since 2015. It's not even close actually, plus their lead gains every year.

The only difference is that the EU would have given hard transition deadlines from micro-USB to USB-C.
You completely missed the point. If Micro USB was the only allowable standard, how would type C have come into existence? What would the push have been?
Companies release new phones with new ports during the transition period and boom, you have traction.
Under the hypothetical, no, they wouldnt. Because it would be illegal to do so, since micro USB would have been the enforced standard.

Why are you having trouble understanding this?
Not that customers had a choice in phone charging port anyways, EU regulation or otherwise.
That has nothing to do with the argument.
There are only positives by moving to an industry wide standard.
There are absolutely negatives. Like, for instance, say goodbye to high power laptops in the EU, anything that needs more then the USB PD spec can deliver just wont get released there. Or the fact that while lightning cables can be fragile, the USB C por titself isnt that great at standing up to heavy use, especially on laptops with heavy thick dock cables that put pressure on the port.

Android's biggest roadblock is google itself.

Maybe samsung will revive interest in tizen, or firefox OS will get resurrected at some point....

That's the thing, the POTENTIAL risk of Apple freezing all operations there is enough to get the EU citizens in a uproar towards its lame socialist leaders and force them to backtrack on their crippling non-innovative LOCKED behaviors.
Siri, how much ultra conservative-aid has this man drank?

It certainly is. You can see what they've become, as well as where they're headed as a company.

Google has been dead to me for years now.

We need a pure Linux phone, at least I do. One that allows use of common Android apps.

Hard technical need? You don't seem to understand that there is a system for neccesary transitions based on technical need.

Took a sip from the wrong bottle for sure.

I'm conservative and supporting companies that manufacture products that serve as tools to go against our traditions and values is wrong in our book. Look, it says here if you support Apple you're a heretic.

Maybe the freedom fighter here is a toy conservative or something, you know the ones who claim to be conservative because they go to church every sunday, or wear red baseball caps with funny letters printed on them but then defend corporations who spend billions of dollars every year to run advertising and marketing campaigns against us all the time.

So you just want a portable device that runs FOSS at its core but only to fill it with garbage proprietary spyware programs?

Why.

A staff at Apple, or two, that is bowing-down to the EU crippling technology advantage plan is not Apple as a establishment and also, how ironic it is that everyone that agrees with this decision is Pro-EU.

Interesting. Nah, nothing sideways about this at all. /s :shadedshu:

Fun fact: even devices sold by, cough, sex shops are using USB chargers.

EU crippling technology

Mr Rogers Clown GIF

how ironic it is that everyone that agrees with this decision is Pro-EU.
Hopefully, Apple will have a separate line of devices with crappy proprietary cables to sell in country you are from, whatever that is.

how generous of him

A staff at Apple, or two,
Must be the whole commercial department that wish to not lose the market that exists in the EU. As one can tell, by the 4Q reports, it's not that little:

Also, "Americas" means the whole continent, not the U.S.A. alone. Put per capita spending there for a notion of how much the EU is a market for Apple.

Proprietary connections are a disease. This as nothing to do about company A or country B.

Coming Next: Apple Locked Charger™️.
Apple's products won't charge in non-Apple chargers.
Or Apple only USB-C charging, you can only charge with a certified cable...

Need to talk to my friend in the UK, so I need SOME social media apps.

You do realise micro USB was the only allowed standard for android devices, and we ended up with USB C?

You're ignoring the fact this already happened
