Apple Launches Core i7 Powered Mac Pro

Come on! This will be one amazing gaming and production machine. Don't let your hatred get in the way of your logic.

This is clearly one serious machine. You would have to spend an incredible amount of money to build a PC that could compete against the Mac Pro and then you would have a machine that wouldn't look as good and couldn't legally (or reliably) run Mac OS X and Windows.

You apparently I have no idea what I do for a living or what pros need.

We understand man, a Mac Pro priced at $22,000 dollars with 2 Xeons with 8 running cores, 32 GB of ram, 4 graphics cards, 4 TB of space, and some of the best editing software on the planet isn't professional enough for you.

4 TB of RAM?

Oh you can have 4 gt120's or one 4870 I thought it was one or the other. Whats with the quote about the two quad core xeon's.

Thought I read CPU  This has been a great day for me!

OH MY GOSH now i can create a fake website with iweb and play with photos of myself with iPhoto AT THE SAME TIME!

Most gaming production machines are not apple computers. In fact most companies will use proprietary software. This apple will be good for a... student trying to go pro.

But don't tell the fan boys that. It might upset their dreams.

its probably not so much that as there is waaaaaay better value to be had, and you could build it yourself and put windows on it.

not to mention how unnecessary some of the extras really are, ie, 16GB ram should be enough, as should 2tb, and one i7, then you can also build it on an X58 for a bigger graphics subsystem with more card choice.

then you can devote more GPGPU power to your photoshop etc, admittedly not as much cpu power but you can always overclock a rig you build yourself ;)

I totally agree, I build all of my rigs.

However, that doesn't escape the fact that the Mac Pro is a beast and is professional by any means.

My favorite part is the fact Wifi is extra. You would think for 2k starting it might be wireless

Would you have rather them have thrown it in and charged you more for the machine?

I think choice is always a better option. I can't remember the last time I ever had the urge to use WiFi on my desktop.

I'd love to get one of these cases though. Even though it looks like a cheese grater I like the inside of it.

So after all this bitchin' what do you guys want in it? :D

No I would rather them charge me a fair price for the hardware to begin with. Also I get reps. come in all the time with files I have to look at and a USB cord isn't alway handy. Wifi is a great tool to have and for 2k it should have it!

Also no self respecting professional would waste company money requesting one of these. It could cost them their bonus at the end of the quarter. I mean its cost 15,000 dollars loaded. What jackass would pay that for a desktop?

Just to let you know I work for a VERY large company and chances are you have something I created in your closet. Trust me I am not talking out of my ass here.

I thought with everything as expensive as you could make it, it was 22grand. Anyway what have you created because there is a cupboard next to me and I'm curious :p

Disney, Warnner Bros, Nick, NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA, MLS, NASCAR, CLC and MANY others.

I'm not saying you're talking out of your ass but just because you feel that way and you have "professional" experience doesn't mean you're anymore credible when it comes to these machines.

1st... if you're in office I assume you're machine is going to be connected to the network. If your machine is connected to the network, I also assume you will have some form of sharing setup.

The only thing WiFi provides for a desktop is convenience at minimal times and shitty bandwidth for desktop standards.

2nd... if you think corporations don't use these machines, or home consumers for that matter, then in my opinion you're dead wrong.

These machines find their way to being used for home users, xserve purposes, and all the way to extreme editing.
