Artifacts when WEB browsing youtube videos

post your timings here

yeah here they are:
(oh and one other thing: I'm not used to using "on board graphics" haven't done that in ages... I've had graphics cards for the last 7 years...)
How do I "make" my PC use the onboard graphics rather than the graphics card?

I install the drivers for the onboard then I go into the bios and enable it (like onboard audio?)
do I have to tell windows to use my onboard (kind of like switching audio devices?)

TIMINGS:

image hosting 10mb limit

try setting 2720 and 1470
in the total fields
also how are you connecting the monitor ?
DVI OR HDMI
you need to use the HDMI port either with a adapter or a strait hdmi cable dvi-i doesn't have the bandwith
give this a shot if you aren't already using it
http://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-NVIDIA-Pixel-Clock-Patcher
the downside is that it may not work on current drivers

I honestly think its a flaw with youtube

edit: I see you have a gtx 970
if you add the resolutions via the nvidia cp you should not need to patch the pixel clock

at first I tried without patching the pixel clock using the nvidia cp but as a last attempt I tried patching the drivers with the pixel clock patcher in the hopes it would fix my problem...
Anyhow, I've started the procedure with ebayseller "greensum" to get a replacement soon. I'll just have to deal with not having a monitor for a few weeks I guess

Do you have EVGA PrecisionX / MSI AB installed? Do the problems go away if you remove them and power cycle? (Not reboot, but turn PC off, wait 5 sec, turn PC on.)

Hey you missed my questions.

Sorry to hear it, but hope your replacement performs as expected. Keep us updated! :D

Hey you missed my questions.

no I haven't tried completly removing MSI AB and RIVA tuner from PC and do a clean power boot. I can try that. I just have to remember where to find my MSI AB profiles I created and settings. I don't feel like re-doing em all.

Yeah, catleap monitors are supposed to be 110hz guaranteed... and mine had some minor backlight bleeding in some areas at the top... not a game breaker... but those artifacts are...
I even noticed I get the same red artifacts on my desktop (wallpapers on my desktop... the dark ones...) although almost impossible to notice though.

Never heard of catleap.

Never heard of catleap.
look @ my EBAY link I posted earlier (it will give you all the details.) for 349$USD it's the flipping best monitor I'Ve ever seen...

the contrast, the blacks and the colors are just out of this world insane... I double checked and I do indeed have the extreme OC edition (120hz garenteed possible 130hz+) but I have a feeling they somehow managed to ship me an older model which doesn't do more than 100hz.

I fiddled around and I can now achieve 99hz without any artifacts...

most catleaps only do about 96hz without issue
cap-leap has been around for awhile they where hot news awhile ago

Apparently not if i never heard of them lol

you are correct in assuming that catleaps could do 96hz ish before really easily... but it's the EXTREME OC EDITION 120hz we're talking about here. Unless I'm mistaken, they should be able to do 120hz there have even been reports of 135hz+...

and eidairaman1... at the moment, I don't believe there are any better monitors (for PC gaming) than catleaps (for the price)
anything similar is 650$+ instead of 349$ USD...

there are catleaps for every tastes... Glossy, matte... IPS panels with 2560x1440.
1440p that can do 120hz are SUPER hard to find.

With more fiddling around I can achieve a 102hz OC on the monitor finally (don't even know what I did that made this possible) ...
Anything higher than that will give me web artifacts and really tiny red dots on my desktop...

it's probably sign that the monitor won't do anything higher, so I won't push it as of now. I'm expecting news from ebayseller "greensum". To be honest, I really don't feel like going through the hassle and pain of having to deal with the whole RMA process and the waiting and having to reassemble and reoverclock everything. I'm quite happy with 102hz. I'm gonna try and get a sort of "compensation" for my troubles. Because as you might have seen in my ebay link, it is indeed advertized as a 120hz monitor. So if it won't do 120hz and I feel like avoiding the RMA process, they might be willing to consider compensating me somehow. Anyhow, I'll keep you guys posted.

chink monitor is chink expecting honesty from asain ebay sellers is like expecting to win the lotto it does happen just not to you
marketing is marketing ... and read the fine print particularly this bit
*Notification: As overclocking may vary depending on the version of graphics card and drivers, we do not gurantee overclocking up to 120Hz
http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAKASI-Q2...6194?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item19eff27312

yamasakis are just clones of Samsung/lg panels with badly made controller boards and a bit of firmware hax
you get one that does what they say on the tin they are a good value you don't happen to get one that was binned high enough then you might as well spend the ~699 on a proper samsung IPS
Hz isn't everything as you have found out
I can overclock this shitty HP lCD to 82Hz does that make it special nope it just means yamasaki games the suckers out there

For some reason I get weird RED LINE artifacts when browsing youtube videos that have dark backgrounds or images...

I have a Catleap monitor OC'ed to 110hz... that OC is super stable for every single video game I've tried but unless I lower the refresh rate, I get those red arftifacts when web browsing (especially with flash content... videos and whatnot)

any idea as to why I get artifacts when browsing but NO where else?
I just read the #1 post so if I repeat my bad, Red lines = bad gpu imho.... Do you have another system you can try the card in?
That would narrow it down, The only reason I say a bad GPU is because with all the overclocking I do when I see red lines that means a card thats about to die.

But you have your monitor overclocked, Why? I ask because I want you to educate me on this subject cuz im a nO0b at monitors o_O

And Im with @eidairaman1 on this, return the Monitor, they're a chepo screen and tbh I haven't heard much good on them besides the ones that luck out and get a good one.

Im in the same boat, "getting a good ONE!" :pimp:

yes I did understand all the risks assiociated with the product when I purchased it... I know it's from Korea and I do know where the monitor comes from, it's an LG monitor (tweaked by those guys I guess) with the glorious, sexy, attractive and seducing glossy screen. I'm probably gonna swap it for another in the hopes that I get one that can do more than 100hz. I mean for the love of God I have a gtx 970 and the latest drivers... I don't know what's missing apart from me being lucky and getting a decent binned monitor (as you say)

Oh and yes, I'd redo my choice any day of the week. A monitor that can do 1440p glossy + 120hz below the 400$ mark, any day of the week of any year mate

Occam's Razor.

To OP:

If you are old enough you may remember the the days of analog where at times a video would get out of sync with a tv. The refresh would not line up and you had to manually turn a knob to adjust the rate. It seems to me that is essentially happening with flash video. Your monitor refresh rate has gone beyond what flash can handle and you get that artifacting.

Simple solution: buy a $200 tablet for youtube and be done with it.

You got what you paid for- a pos.

Might be just as easy to create a batch file that changes to his custom resolution when a game launches.

That would be incredibly awesome indeed!

I could setup a batch file that automatically makes my refresh rate revert to something like 60hz when I open my browser and automatically switches to my higher refresh rate when I game...
But the complication that I can foresee is that sometimes "whilst" gaming I'll alt-tab and browse the web, and for sure lol, I'll get them artifacts if I ever dare to watch a web video.

Actually what I think I'll do is I'll try (for the moment if nothing changes, meaning if I don't RMA) is I'll setup 2 resolutions, one for gaming and one for browsing and set em up on "hotkeys" (macros). I used to run 2 different .bat files back when I had my gtx 670 for my 2 setups (I had a perma overclock setting and another for when I only needed my card to idle... for web browsing and such...)

I'm already "accustomed" to switching back and fourth between them hotkeys for gaming so this time it'll only be for the custom resolutions.
Thanks for the recommendation, smart tip
