Ashes of the Singularity DirectX 12 Mixed GPU Performance

How would that change from now.. people buy a second or third to add on as is. I don't agree with that considering the potential and included hassles, but...

for example, I have a 970.
I would not have to get rid of it to change generation, just buy a GTX 1080 and would use with the 970, when I was performing a new upgrade would be to Processor, Motherboard and memory, getting rid of 970 and old processor, MB and RAM.
 
and dont forget the boons of APU systems - while the CPU performance may be lacking, that extra 20% GPU performance (or more,depending on the combo) of adding in an APU's IGP could really be a great boon to entry level gaming systems.
