ASUS ROG Astral "Hatsune Miku" RTX 5080 Comes with a 100% Premium

Yes

LOL, even as a one-off publicity stunt, that looks like total ass - possibly the most questionable and tasteless use of $500K of gold I've seen!
If it hadn't been authenticated as gold, I'd assume someone had 3D-printed a plastic shroud and hastily sprayed it in an uneven single coat of "gold" paint from a rattle can....

looks like the sponge toffee edition lol

Pardon my language but...

Holy fuck, double the price just for a blue anime girl? No offense to people who are fans of Miku but... damn Asus is greedy.

I feel like you could get something cooler by paying an artist to paint it, and still buy a 9800X3D. Not that I'd try it myself.

I'll also add this, what justifies double the price of something that creates pictures?

Is it hand painted or something? Cause that's the type of choice I'd expect from a Ferrari.

Who df is Hatsune Miku, and what does it do, or why is this retarded craze over it??

You have to be in a special corner I guess to understand this. I mean, I do TCGs and I also see some cards and special art versions explode for god knows why. Never underestimate the power of collectors' minds  :roll:its the reason I get to upsell a paper piece of card with a 200% mark up a few months after release... and play Magic the Gathering for pretty much free while building up a pension fund lol. You cant get this kind of money out of crypto even.

A small price to pay for salvation.

For those who dare

Target audience..

In all fairness to ASUS, have any of you every tried to license things like this? This kind of thing ain't cheap. Then there's the custom manufacturing side of it. While I don't know if DOUBLE the price is an actual factor, there is not a snowballs chance in hell that this kind of thing would EVER be cheap..

Just throwing it out there..

WTF does that even mean?

Come on Lex, licensing and making plastic shroud in different color doesn't even come close to $1000+ that ASUS is asking for it.

What I don’t understand is that character is more popular than its original audience back in Japan… with this all exclusive China release… like the previous Gundam stuff all super expensive too but not as ridiculous as this …. I guess the wealthy class in China has the money for it

Let the hate flow. It fuels me.

I was defending it!

Man, that rig turned out awesome :peace:

Yep, if there's (extra) money to be made, nGreediya & AsSus will ALWAYS be 1st in line at the trough, like a pack of voracious, starving hogs at feeding time.... sooo sad :(

I do hope we'll hear the same once there's a Radeon AIB doing a design collaboration for your favorite game, anime or movie ;)

Naah this is pure inflation mate. Its marketing all the way; brand exposure for all parties involved. It is literally raining 'This x That' versions and series of everything; just throw two popular things in a blender, mark up and sell.

While I would agree about the $1000+ statement, make no mistake, licensing fees and custom artwork on shrouds are NOT cheap.
There are entire factory lines in Shenzhen and numerous other locations dedicated to this shit. They make to order. What do you think fuels all those kickstarter projects? Cheap production, send your CAD file and go. Its an industry all on its own, fueled entirely by hype after hype.

This is why China rules the production world atm. Doing such a thing in a Western country indeed commands a massive fee, but that aint happening here.

A large chunk of that upcharge goes to Sega, who created the Hatsune Miku character & still owns the IP rights.

It's why a LEGO™ Star Wars set always cost a lot more than one of their own sets with a similar number of bricks. Licensing costs moneys!
