Me and my Dad built my computer about 2-3 years ago and for a long time it ran so smoothly and beautifully however one day when I went to update my video card I could not find the 'GeForce Experience' program which is where I update my video card when an update comes through. Shortly after, I uninstalled the whole program (as I could not find the program) I uninstalled the whole program). I then went onto the NVIDIA GeForce website https://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers to download the program again however I did not do a 'Driver Manual Search' where you type in your windows version and graphics card to get the program specifically for your video card but I just downloaded the 'Automatic Driver Updates' download. Shortly after downloading the program and updating my video card with the 'Automatic Driver Updates' program I randomly for some reason went on Grand Theft Auto V and blasted on Ultra Settings and mind me that none of the components in my PC had been overclocked so that made it pretty hard for the Video Card to handle the settings and a result of that was really bad FPS! I went from 61 FPS continuously to my FPS dropping to like 30 and then quickly arising to about 60+. I saw this bad and put my settings back however it was still lagging so instead of reverting it back I was an idiot and uninstalled it and then downloaded the 'Driver Manual Search' download but there was no difference. From this day I have not been able to fix it and I wonder how such a stupid little mess up made nearly all my games on my PC have FPS drops when I play them. Another example is CS:GO, I used to get 284 FPS continuously but now I get drops of up to 80 FPS! Please give me a solution and help me :(

That's a dumb benchmark and shame on you for using it.

Also use an older driver.

What's your power supply, case, Cpu heatsink?

Get some temperature monitoring software,

Open up task manager and alt printscreen services and post them here so we can look and see.

By the way GTX 970 were falsly advertised with 4096MebiBytes ram, they only have 3584MebiBytes which is only 3.5 GibiBytes

Ehh, it has all 4GB, however, the last 512MB are slower than the first set.

Also, what are Mebibytes and Gibibytes? Typos I suppose. :)

Anyway, I would use DDU to uninstall the driver and try again with a different driver. At 1600x900 you are horrifically CPU bound for the most part. That said, in GTA, I would still see how much RAM "ULtra" uses. If its above that 3.5GB mark, consider lowering it for better performance due to the aforementioned issue.

When you have an older video card your best bet is to use a driver that is released within no more than a year from the release of that GPU. or if A newer gpu was released (for instance the 1070 )no driver after that release date, because optimization focus moves onto the newer GPU. Unless ofc there is a specific update for the card u have, which isnt common after a newer model is released

Example:
Say you bought a video card on the day of its release ,and for ease we'll say that date was January 1. Over the next six months or so ,that company will update the drivers for your video card ,until a point about a half a year or so later, when they'll release a newer model of your card. At that point you don't want to update your drivers any longer, because now the company who made your video card is focusing on the newer model. some people think newer drivers gradually take small amounts of performance away ,or small amounts of optimization ,to make it seem slower than I may actually be ... but I can't confirm or deny that theory. But its never served me wrong to follow this thinking, & id also suggest you be more "informed" when it comes to your driver updates, dont just "blind update" because a new driver is available, update only when it benefits your system, otherwise whats the point?

I have a Corsair CX850M, My heatsink is Foxconn Intel E97378-001 DC12V 0.17A, and I am not sure of my chassis but it is definitely not made for gaming but instead for normal PC'S. What temperature monitoring software do you suggest I should use? I use the CAM in-game software right now but I am not sure it is advanced enough. Also should I show screenshots of Grand Theft Auto V when it has FPS Drops? And if so what programs do you recommend to do that?

So I listened to what you said so I used DDU to uninstall my current driver being version 388.00 which was released on 23/10/17. I then went over to the ASUS website to download an old driver. There were only two however one was Version 359.06 and came out on 19 /09/2016 and consisted of 300.93 MBytes and one was Version 353.62 and came out on 07/08/2015 and consisted of 436.31 MBytes. I decided to download Version 359.06, however when it came to playing there was no difference. I was still gettings FPS drops, is there a process you have to do when switching drivers? Idk what to now. :/

i usually just install the drivers, i dont even remove older ones, even when from a different GPU, or maker...but you may need to.

i would get the drivers from Nvidia's website though, not a 2nd party location. maybe This one HERE for windows 10 i dont know your OS.

sadly, if your Issue is consistent regardless of Software changes, adjustments, it may be HW related, or related to another component, PSU, CPU, MoBo, etc.

also, use a benchmark that uses a quantifiable measurement other than "good" or "bad" something like either a built in Benchmark for a game (GTA5 has one, as well as metroLL and others) or use something like unigine Heaven (doesnt support win 10iirc), or superposition, as this all may be for nothing. Im not saying your not experiencing a change, but ive learned over the years to ask for proof (in quantifiable form) from people asking for help.

They only have the latest driver on the NVIDIA website version 388.00 and the link you gave me is only compatible with Windows 10 and I have Windows 8.1 :/

64 bit
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/114346/en-us

32bit
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/114345/en-us

you need to spend more time looking bud, they have an entire Driver database that goes back into 2016 for Every card and every OS ;) (sadly the oldest you can now go is late 2016, but i think JAn2017 should be fine)

use this link to find them in the future, you just fill out the info

this 3rd party site (although i dont think you need it), goes back farther

give a man a lesson on how to fish by himself .... he will slap you before you even started the lesson ....

morality? well it all depend on the man you are giving help or advice.... but always prepare for a slap (sorry i couldn't let this pass ...)

you need to spend more time looking bud, they have an entire Driver database that goes back into 2016 for Every card and every OS ;) (sadly the oldest you can now go is late 2016, but i think JAn2017 should be fine)

use this link to find them in the future, you just fill out the info

this 3rd party site (although i dont think you need it), goes back farther
i guess i could try go fishing with these advice ... or not ... i prefer my fishing pole .... so i can slap passerby (re ninja'ed .... but i like it)

i usually just install the drivers, i dont even remove older ones, even when from a different GPU, or maker...but you may need to.

i would get the drivers from Nvidia's website though, not a 2nd party location. maybe This one HERE for windows 10 i dont know your OS.

sadly, if your Issue is consistent regardless of Software changes, adjustments, it may be HW related, or related to another component, PSU, CPU, MoBo, etc.

also, use a benchmark that uses a quantifiable measurement other than "good" or "bad" something like either a built in Benchmark for a game (GTA5 has one, as well as metroLL and others) or use something like unigine Heaven (doesnt support win 10iirc), or superposition, as this all may be for nothing. Im not saying your not experiencing a change, but ive learned over the years to ask for proof (in quantifiable form) from people asking for help.
So I decided to do a benchmark test on GTA 5, this is the beginning of the benchmark which can be seen in the pic down below

And this is the link to the full benchmark on YouTube:

I don't know what settings you have Grandtheft auto on ,but as long as their medium to high ,you're fine that's around what my 970 does.

Has the benchmark in Grandtheft auto always had all those loading screens? Whenever I pick it ,it just goes right to the benchmark ....maybe a hdd vs ssd thing.

Also I'm unfamiliar with that speed fan program ,I would get something else just based on the few amount of times I've encountered it. Afterburner is good.

One thing I noticed was your RAM appears to be running at 1333Mhz. Bump it up in BIOS to its default, I think you're under default speeds which looks like their supposed to be 2400Mhz. It tells you in the pics you posted to choose the topmost XMP Profile in BIOS. Try that then report back please.

you have only one problem this:

BECAUSE U USE THE SECOND RED SLOT
Move the gtx 970 to the first one red slot and it will fix the things.

So simple.

keep in mind, GPUz only deisplays the PCIe speed that is being used, if no load is on the GPU, then x8 will show, but if it is @ 100% load, x16 will show, i dont know if in that Screen cap the 970 was under strain or not..

regardless tho, X8 wouldnt affect a video card like a 1080, much less a 970,atleast not by more than 1/2 a single frame per second.

For example if you had PCIe 3.0×16 & a given pc rendered a game at 60 fps. Then that same pc running the sam game at pcie x8 would render 59.6fps(its that miniscule).

heres an interesting result btw.....this test showed a Reverse of what you might expect of X8 vs x16 using a titanX , note the bottom result run @1080p....weird, most likely an anomaly.
