I'm an OpenGL noob, so what does 4.0 have to offer? Does it make the games appear better? What is it's main purpose aposed to Directx 11

I'm curious too as I know next to nothing when it comes to OpenGL, OpenCL...

Do we know if this OpenGL set have the same improvements as the 10.3a (included)?

OpenGL 4.0 is basically the same thing as Direct3D 11 (included in DirectX 11). They are two separate types of libraries but they feature functions that yeld very similar if not the same results.

Does this increase performance in OGL 1,5 and 2,1 based apps, like google earth or sketchup?

Open GL is basically Glide 3D , things like quake and Halflife, duke nukem ect run open gl, it is a superior 3d code than DX but unfortunantly not many developers use it anymore.

Superior !! The last time OpenGL was superior was during the time of OpenGL 1.5 after that Direct X started started to pull ahead, I dunno about OpenGL 4 though!

wow.... I ran Cinebench OpenGL test:

Before the OpenGL 4.0 - 19.93 FPS
After the OpenGL 4.0 - 37.28 FPS

Freaky....

DAAAMMNNN.... AMD/ATI is on the MOVE!

"installer integrity check has failed. Common causes include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the installers author to get a new copy" etc..

Supposedly they are trying to fix the error.

Yet, another driver was released yesterday this one is OpenGL 4.0 version 2 (dated: March 29, 2010)

Bloody 'ell!
