hi guys,
just fitted my sons new antec 400w psu (didnt realise it was so easy!):)
installed the hd 4770 following guide on this forum.
my problem is i cant install any new drivers or catalyst control center.
i have read multiple posts on lots of forums about this but i cant seem to get it to work.:banghead:
checking device manager my driver is 8.6 version.
went to amd site and tried downloaded the new 10.3
it runs, but it freezes just after the install screen. there is no other programs running.
sometimes nothing happens, but sometimes i get the "has this program installed correctly page"
i have tried some older drivers as well. but still the same.
it wont even load the driver or CCC from the cd
i was connected to net after first bootup so i think windows 7 installed the driver itself.

i have tried uninstalling the 8.6 driver and then installing the newer drivers, but still the same problem.

and yes i am running an administrator account and right clicking as well.
i have even tried them in compatability mode right back to xp sp2.

i have installed the Visuall C++ 2008 SP1 redistributable
also tried the fix to reinstall the .Net 2 framework
i also tried a clean boot with antivirus turned off and any other non windows programs
any advice?

also when i do a manual install through dev manager and i browse to the file it says i have the current driver,
but i want to install CCC

intel celoron (wolfdale) e3300 runs at 2.5ghz but can overclock it to 3ghz or higher, using foxconn one software
2gb ddr2 ram 333 mhz (cpu id says it) i am planning on upgrading this in future.
xfx hd 4770
400w antec psu
foxconn g41mx 2.0/G41MX-k 2.0 mobo
1366 x 768 (widescreen resolution) similar to 1280 x 1040 res.
win 7 pro

Try uninstalling the driver using this here and follow the instructions:

http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

I've never had a problem myself just uninstalling the drivers from the add/remove programs. But this will clean every trace of it. And then reinstall the new one.

First, install your windows updates. 7 has had some fixes with slightly incompatible setups.

Second, uninstall the 8.6 drivers and use DriverSweeper like suggested to get rid of it all

Third, double/triplecheck if you have the right driver package.

i solved it.

i installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable rebooted and hey presto it installed:D
i had the 2008 version. the must be a conflict between the 2008 version and CCC.
i have it running now with newest driver.

if you google "CCC cant install on windows 7", this is a very common problem.
thanks guys for the quick replies.

ps. i had already run driver sweeper before install of card.
