I just got my HD3870 today and I am trying to set it up on multiple monitors like my previous card [nVidia 7600GS] but every time I try to enable my second monitor, nothing happens.

I am using a DCLLCD as the primary monitor, and TRYING to get my 26" television to be the extended desktop for watching movies browsing etc. I can get the television to work as a monitor by dragging and dropping the TV icon and "swapping" it with the DCLLCD, but I can't get dual displays enabled. I have also tried enabling multiple displays in the windows display manager by checking the "extend my window onto this monitor" check box, to no avail...

This is a picture of the windows I go through in catalyst....

EXPLANATION OF PICTURES:
1. I open catalyst's display manager
2. I ATTEMPT to right click [Nothing happens]
3. I attempt to enable the second monitor another way
?. Nothing changes

ANY IDEAS? PLEASE HELP ME!

Ok basic question. Both Displays are connected right? Checked all the cables? What ports are available on your card is it both DVI? Does the card see individual displays plugged into their respective ports with the other one plugged out? did you right-click on your main display?

How exactly are you hooking your TV up? DVI? VGA? D-Sub?

Also, try going to Display Options and check the box marked Force TV Detection.

I am using the middle connector [non DVI] to connect my TV]

this is it:

is there some way to enable this as a monitor port on this card? in windows display properties it only displays the DVI ports.

Catalyst has this moitor detected, if i force it it just creates a duplicate and i am still unable to right click either of them no matter how many times it tells me to.
[look at first post, the "right click this" bubble is popping up above the detected television]

I run a 19" LCd main and a 15" secondary...both LCD....but the only thing I ever do is select screen 2 and tick the box "extend desktop" and I can put whatever, wherever!

Both screens:

Settings where you tick the "extend" box:

This is done from desktop properties in Windows even...no need to be in CCC except to set resolutions maybe!

I tried that as well, even without catalyst installed, it just acted like it set, refreshed the screen, and unchecked the box. i think its because its not in the DVI port, but if you can only use the TV as your main monitor, then its not even worth it for me.

You are using Component to connect to your TV. If I remember correctly it will display a picture when you start playing some content like movies. I think I had the same problem when I used my old AIW 9600XT.

OKAY! i was able to get it to work, For SOME reason, i had to use my TV as the primary monitor and THEN add my LCD as the extended desktop, then i just swapped them, and now it works. I think thats something that needs to be fixed in catalyst like a glitch or something....

ANYWAYS! thanks for the help guys! Its working now!:respect:

I think i have a solution, i connected my monitor on another DVI connector... i think graphic card has something like primary and secondary DVI connector and if its connected to secondary it wont work...
So... try to reconnect your monitor to another DVI connector and see if it works...
This is solution for TV not working when connected on S-video connector. ;)

tx for help

Just bought an ATI 4870 overclocked card. Not cheap for me. And it was sad to see it not work with TV.

So I tried switching the monitor output on my card. I guess the one that's near the motherboard is the first and the other is second. I used the second and my ati card didn't recognise TV.

Tx for info. Made my day! :)
