I have had a single 4850 in my computer for around the past 3 years now, and recently I decided to play the battlefield 3 beta just to try it out. I played it for around 15 minutes and then my screen went black and the computer instantly restarted, but the moniter was saying it had no signal.

I opened the tower up to have a look and found 2 red lights on my graphics card, and noticed the gfx cards fan wasn't spinning either. Everything else was working, fans, cpu fans etc just the graphics card wasn't.

I checked cables to see if anything had been knocked loose and changed the 6 pin connector that goes into the 4850, but this didn't work.

I'm looking into buying a new graphics card but i'm unsure whether this is a fault with my 4850 or the motherboard, could anyone give me some advice?

Sounds like the fan died in mid gaming and your card overheated. Does your mb have another pcie slot available? Switch the position of the card and see if that helps.

Update: I just tried another graphics card (albeit a 5 year old one) in the same slot and still couldn't get a signal. Could be the motherboard but i find it rather odd that everything else still works..

I don't have another pcie slot available i'm afraid

Try reseting the cmos , clean the slot and if still doesnt work there is a big posibility that mobo is faulty .

Did what you said but no luck. I can't understand why everything else on the mobo is working though. Looks like ill have to buy another..

Reseated video card? Just speculation, sounds like it toasted your northbridge, killed your first PCIe slot and MAYBE your video card. What power supply were you using?

I think it maybe a power issue.

know anyone that would let you test that card in their PC?

Agreed all of the lights/buzzers on cards are usually power related, if the card dies nothing works most of the time.

The full name is mod x stream pro, I've had it for about 2-3 years

Thanks man. First off, see if you can test the card in another PC. Second, try a different power supply. I got a sneaking suspicion though what I said previously stands that i think both motherboard and power supply need replaced.

PS: Use multi-quote function to avoid double posts :)

Sorry about that, I'm posting from my phone so its a bit awkward. I'll see if I can test the card in an other pc but I'm tempted to just get a new motherboard, graphics card and PSU now, needed upgrading anyways.

Get a Sandy bridge with 6950 2gb and enjoy your mind getting blown away!

One step at a time bro. I'm really thinking it's a motherboard issue.
