ATI Radeon 9550 Overclocking and BIOS modding FAQ Guide

Jimmy 2004, thanks for your attention and help. The only thing i can do is use the ati tools to overclock especially the core and the mem clock too i think. Maybe i can increase about 20% my card to play normally quake 4. Tell me one more thing if you please.
I have no cooler in my card, it´s something grey. Well, it´s importante to put a better cooling and which cooler fix there.
thanks for all your attention

I'm not an expert on cooling, my 9550 came with a fansink, sounds like yours is only a heatsink, but if you have no form of fan on you card, I'd strongly advise getting some extra cooling... I'm afraid that isn't my strong point, I don't know which coolers to use so either take a look around the forums or search google.

Jimmy 2004,
I triyed to flash my Gigabyte R9550 256MB up to R9600pro But I am not abale to Flash it.

1) Is your card still working, or has the flash killed it?
2) Are you sure you are trying to flash the correct card and don't have a PCI card in as well or something?

sory for late .
no the card still working and Iam sure I have the correct bios bin, but but Its givin me that the bios is protected or some thing like that.
by other I culd not find the same ram cause my ram is hynix 5 but I foud hynix 4 and a member said to me its will work.
is there any thing wrong?
and I have a PCI vga card .

when u download the bios from this forum,
first; click on the "advanced" link
2nd; a window will pop up,then select the third choice(if i am not mistaken)you can see there is a choice written download as a iso/image(burn to cd) in the list.
3rd; get ready a cd-rw,burn into it
4th; restart your pc and boot from cd-rom
5th; in the dos,there are 2 choice,start dos or flash with xxxbios(normally i use the 2nd one)
6th; after flsah succesfully,u should hear a sound from the casing speaker
finally restart
hope this help u

Someone have the ASUS 9550GE/TD 128M original BIOS?
I can't find it on the net after I flashed my card to R9600(400/200)!:(
One more question,is there any software that can edit the bios backup file to change it's name and memory timing

asus 9550 to 9600

hi, i have an asus radeon 9550 and i tried to flash it`s bios to 9600 with flashrom. It doesn`t work:banghead: , i receive an error like that:

Serial ROM
Bios DeviceID = 0X4152
ASIC DeviceID = 0X4153
Existing memcfg = 0x6140
New memcfg = 0x2940
Existing SSID = 0x0090
New SSID = 0XC01A
Existing BIOS P/N = 113-AA66100-104
New BIOS P/N = 113-AA00
Flash type = ST M25P05/c
Error: data not erased
ERROR 0FL01: press '1' to continue

then i modified ti`s original bios (250/200 @ 475/300 core/mem) and tied to write that bios and i receive this:

Serial ROM
Bios DeviceID = 0X4152
ASIC DeviceID = 0X4152
Existing memcfg = 0x6140
New memcfg = 0x6140
Existing SSID = 0x0090
New SSID = 0X0090
Existing BIOS P/N = 113-AA66100-104
New BIOS P/N = 113-AA66100-104
Flash type = ST M25P05/c
Error: data not erased
ERROR 0FL01: press '1' to continue

Is it possible that bios is write protected, and if it is how can i break that protection, is any soft i can use, please can someone help me...

which bios should i use?

I have an sapphire radeon 9550 256 MB
Device ID 4153
Chip type RV350
Mem bus 128-bit
256MB RAM
Active Pipes 4
Samsung Memory 5.0
I can over clock my GPU from 250/stock to over 360 i havent tried any higher ram only goes to about 215 MHZ above that artifacts will apear

Anyway which 9600 bios would be good for this card?

9600XT preformance for 1/3 of the price :D

Gigabyte 9550 before voltmod 480/270, with vmods it now works at 630/290 :rockout: @ 1.6v on core (dont go as high for daily use. Go to 1.4-1.5 volts max :D ). To bad that I kinda F-ed it up before and am geting mad artifacts even on stock speeds (as seen on the this picture ).

About flashing the Gigabyte: I don't have any idea what I did that alowed me to flash, but after the first flash I haven't had any problems with flashing. Oh, and I use ATI winflash with a Gigabyte 9600 pro bios (beter score when benchmarking, becouse of the ram timings. I have tried to mod the original 9550 bios with the 9600 timings and gets the same benchmark resaults as the 9600 pro bios).

GeCube 9600 Pro 256 MB bios but download one moded to 360MHz core clock speed (or try if your card works at the 9600 pro 398MHz).
Don't expect too much from you'r ram becouse it's made to work at 200MHz.

When i flash bios for my Gigabyte (GV-R955128D) it says: (Error: block protect not disabled, status=OE, ERROR OFL01). what i can do?

you can try forcing the flash with flashrom, forcing a flash is simple, the full command is;

Flashrom -p -f 0 *BIOSfilenamehere*.rom\bin

you can download flashrom from my guide post number 9

i understand how the "-f" is supposed to force the flash, however, ive noticed that many ppl, as well as myself, have found that the -f command isnt enough. i forget if it was on this thread or another, but the command used was:

flashrom -f -p -sst 0 "biosName.bin"

and i was able to flash it, tho it was not successful (i just got a blank screen). but i was still able to flash back. hope this helps. :)

sorry for that i thought i was in the right page wrong one thank you for letting me know. And hopefully i'll break 10000 TY JIMMY

400/200 isn't 9600XT speed??!!

Ok here's what happened! I have an AGP 256MB ATI 9550 vid card. I got Oblivion yesterday and wanted to try and overclock it. So I downloaded the SoftMod Catalyst 6.3 v6.14.10.6601 and installed it. I then install ATI-Tool and ran it. I cranked my core speed up 10 Mhz from 249.75 to 259.75 and exited the program. Then I ran Oblivion and the game ran fine so I exited the game and started ATI-Tool back up. I now clicked Test Max Core button and it began its testing. Everything was fine until it reach the speed of 370.25 MHZ at which point it stopped rendering the Direct3d image in the window. I was worried so I clicked abort and all of the sudden my monitor went blank! I checked the cables and such and finally reset my computer. But to my disappointment on restart the monitor was still blank. I then proceeded to move the video card into another computer I have next to me which has everything else the same mainboard ,ram ,ect. The affect was the same the video card won't do anything anymore, it won't even display the BIOS on startup anymore regardless of which computer it is put in. Is it fried? What the hell happened? I never changed the BIOS or anything. This is not the cheaper 9550 either, I paid about $160 for it. Any suggestions or comments?:(
