well, he charged you for fixing it when it's not fixed ?!?!

If he also installed a new fan, it could be that the card has just about reached the end of it's lifetime. Try installing ATITool, usually used to overclock cards, but 'underclock' yours by about 50mhz on the core and memory, play a few games, and see if it hold up.

Once it's installed, move the sliders down, and when you've lowered the speeds, click 'set clock'... easy as that :)

basically, underclocking the card lowers the speed it runs at, and at the same time, lowers the temperatures. On older cards that are becoming unstable due to their age or various other reasons, you can sometimes extend their lifetime but lowering the speed it runs at.

umm, first try lowering them by 50mhz, then play a few games and see what happens

what did it say the default speeds were? You should only need to take them down a little below the default.

sure, it's a shame the defaults are that low to begin with, so you will loose quite a lot of performance.

Anyway, next thing to do is to individually lower the core, and the memory to see which is causing the instability. So lower the core slightly, but keep the mem at default, play some games, if it crashes, put the core back to default, and lower the memory. This way you won't loose so much performance.

275mhz for the core and 150mhz for the mem are the speeds you should try :)

Glad to hear it's helping anyway

It is, thank you so much ,:D

My default is always at 300 and same with the mem. You cant overwrite the default which is crap because you have to change the settings all the time

My settings right now are : Core 274 and mem 171 seems to be fine..

Re 9600 Pro

Try going back to an older version of the Catalyst drivers.

I had problems with Far Cry on a 9800 Pro using Cats 5.13, 5.12, 5.08 and 5.06. My brother had similar problems with a 9600 Pro using Cat 5.10. We both solved our problems by going back to Catalyst 4.12. No more crashes on either computer and no significant performance degredation.

The new drivers are obviously optomised for the newer generation of cards.

From what i've heard, i'd think it is more likely to be a hardware problem. And we proved this by getting the card working of slightly lower clock speeds. It could be the drivers making the gpu work harder than it's designed to though. It's an interesting thought.

It might be worth trying out some older drivers like mack suggested. It's well worth a shot.

Thanks mack :)
