Whenever I open a game that requires the use of OpenGL, I get a BSOD stating an error with atikmdag.sys. I only started getting this yesterday and I don't think I have made any changes to my system. I should note that I did not have these problems before yesterday and the only occur with OGL related apps

I should have asked, what OS are you using? Vista, should have figured.

Check and see if you have either of these services running; Ati Hotkey Poller and/or ATI Smart.

To do this go to the Start button ---> Run. Type in services.msc.

Double click on both services listed above and change their Startup type in the pulldown to Disabled.

Reboot your PC and try your OpenGL games again.

Just a suggestion... Don't expect any miracles from me.

I actually don't have either of those services. Running vista x64

turn off aero. I keep getting a atikmdag has failed and has been recovered.

Have you tried a restoring it to a few days ago? Also what version of cat drivers are you using?

I don't have system restore enabled so that's not an option. Using cat 9.1 right now as cat 8.12 installs, but says no device found after reboot

Have you tried 8.10?

Did you go and optimize Vista by stopping services? Or run some kind of optimizer? Did you ever have a different graphic card in the system besides the 4550?

I suppose I'll give it a try now, although I don't think the driver will find compatible devices

I disabled a number of services post the installation of the OGL app, but the app was working for numerous days when it suddenly stopped working. The last thing I did to this system was installing office 2007, but removing that seems to have had no effect. The only card for this windows install has been the 4550

Just tried a fresh windows install and the same error occurs. I'm honestly out of ideas other than to go back to xp

Do you have all the updates from Microsoft? If not please do so.

Just did a fresh copy of xp and it still happens... tried a few different driver sets and nothing seems to work. Completely out of ideas now

I say the 9.1's have some issues with the HD4870X2 and openGL as I reported issues as well ...I would fiddle the 8.12 w/hotfix some more as they should install ...be sure you have your .Nets installed from Microsoft first though ....good luck
