Buying for a friend - he's got a 3800+ AA64 single core, and wants to go dual on the cheap.

Ebay and local stores are failing, wanting upto $200 for a 4200+

(i got an FX62 on here for less a few months ago)

So... make offers! i may have hardware to trade as well, trades to Aus people only.

I Have an x2 for sale and using surface mail its quite cheap but can take up to 56 days to get there worst case senario but air mail works out at $24 aus. I hate shipping prices.

The 939 chips are getting more and more rare, I think you can still find some on newegg, tiger, and zipzoom.

Hmm, this was the only new chip I could find, although I've had bad ocing experience with the 180s

You might want to try finding a cheap dual sempy. It may be a sempy, but it would still be better than a single core Athlon.

Your buddy might be better off doing without for a few days and ebaying off his DDR, mobo, and CPU, my uncle just got rid of a single core opty, MSI Neo-2 FIR and some OCZ Platinum and got enough off of that to build an AM2 machine with 2gb PC6400 Tracers and an athlon 4800.

i think you're right ozzman, he just has a DFI RS482 infinity which is a godly matx rig (its a half height system, plans for a 9600GT in it)

I'll advise him to go sell it for an AM2+ rig or an intel.

thats the best idea, i was price cheking for possibly upgradeing my 939 instead of replacing it, and an X2 4800, FX60 or 165 are all way to expensive for my tastes.

yeah i came up with prices to make a core 2 system with a 9600GT in a half height matx form factor for under $600, and he can sell his current 939 with onboard video for most of that.
